Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
Psalm 86[a]
A prayer of David.
86 Listen,[b] O Lord. Answer me.
For I am oppressed and needy.
2 Protect me,[c] for I am loyal.
You are my God; deliver your servant who trusts in you.
3 Have mercy on me,[d] O Lord,
for I cry out to you all day long.
4 Make your servant[e] glad,
for to you, O Lord, I pray.[f]
5 Certainly,[g] O Lord, you are kind[h] and forgiving,
and show great faithfulness to all who cry out to you.
6 O Lord, hear my prayer.
Pay attention to my plea for mercy.
7 In my time of trouble I cry out to you,
for you will answer me.
8 None can compare to you among the gods, O Lord.
Your exploits are incomparable.[i]
9 All the nations, whom you created,
will come and worship you,[j] O Lord.
They will honor your name.
10 For you are great and do amazing things.
You alone are God.
3 Tell them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says:
“‘Look, I am against[a] you, Pharaoh king of Egypt,
the great monster[b] lying in the midst of its waterways,
who has said, “My Nile is my own, I made it for myself.”[c]
4 I will put hooks in your jaws
and stick the fish of your waterways to your scales.
I will haul you up from the midst of your waterways,
and all the fish of your waterways will stick to your scales.
5 I will leave you in the wilderness,
you and all the fish of your waterways;
you will fall in the open field and will not be gathered up or collected.[d]
I have given you as food to the beasts of the earth and the birds of the skies.
6 Then all those living in Egypt will know that I am the Lord
because they were a reed staff[e] for the house of Israel;
7 when they grasped you with their hand,[f] you broke and tore[g] their shoulders,
and when they leaned on you, you splintered and caused their legs to be unsteady.[h]
53 When he went out from there, the experts in the law[a] and the Pharisees began to oppose him bitterly,[b] and to ask him hostile questions[c] about many things, 54 plotting against[d] him, to catch[e] him in something he might say.
Fear God, Not People
12 Meanwhile,[f] when many thousands of the crowd had gathered so that they were trampling on one another, Jesus[g] began to speak first to his disciples, “Be on your guard against[h] the yeast of the Pharisees,[i] which is hypocrisy.[j] 2 Nothing is hidden[k] that will not be revealed,[l] and nothing is secret that will not be made known. 3 So then[m] whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered[n] in private rooms[o] will be proclaimed from the housetops.[p]
