Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
Mary Magnifies the Lord
46 And Mary said:
“(A)My soul (B)magnifies the [a]Lord,
47 And (C)my spirit has rejoiced in (D)God my Savior.
48 For (E)He has looked upon the humble state of His slave,
For behold, from this time on, all generations will count me (F)blessed.
49 For the Mighty One has done great things for me,
And holy is His name.
50 (G)And His mercy is [b]upon generation after generation
Toward those who fear Him.
51 (H)He has done a mighty deed with His arm;
He has scattered those who were proud in the [c]thoughts of their heart.
52 He has brought down rulers from their thrones,
And has (I)exalted those who were humble.
53 (J)He has filled the hungry with good things,
And sent away the rich empty-handed.
54 He has given help to Israel His servant,
[d]In remembrance of His mercy,
55 (K)As He spoke to our fathers,
(L)To Abraham and his seed forever.”
David Magnifies Yahweh’s Name
18 Then David the king went in and sat before Yahweh, and he said, “(A)Who am I, O Lord Yahweh, and what is my house, that You have brought me this far?
23 And (A)what one nation on the earth is like Your people Israel, whom God went to redeem for Himself as a people and to make a name for Himself, and (B)to do a great thing for You and awesome things for Your land, before (C)Your people whom (D)You have redeemed for Yourself from Egypt, from nations and their gods? 24 Yet (E)You have established for Yourself Your people Israel as Your own people forever, and (F)You, O Yahweh, have become their God. 25 So now, O Yahweh God, the word that You have spoken concerning Your slave and concerning his house, establish it forever, and do as You have spoken, 26 (G)that Your name may be magnified forever, by saying, ‘Yahweh of hosts is God over Israel’; and the house of Your [a]servant David shall be established before You. 27 For You, O Yahweh of hosts, the God of Israel, have revealed in the hearing of Your slave, saying, ‘(H)I will build you a house’; therefore Your slave has found courage in his heart to pray this prayer to You. 28 So now, O Lord Yahweh, You are God, and (I)Your words are truth, and You have [b]promised this good thing to Your slave. 29 So now, be pleased and bless the house of Your slave, that it may be forever before You. For You, O Lord Yahweh, have spoken; and (J)with Your blessing may the house of Your slave be blessed forever.”
6 Just as (A)Abraham (B)believed God and it was counted to him as righteousness, 7 so know that (C)those who are of faith, those are (D)sons of Abraham. 8 And the Scripture, foreseeing that God [a]would justify the [b]Gentiles by faith, proclaimed the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, “(E)All the nations will be blessed in you.” 9 So then (F)those who are of faith are blessed with [c]Abraham, the believer.
10 For as many as are of the works of [d]the Law are under a curse, for it is written, “(G)Cursed is everyone who does not abide by all things written in the book of the law, to do them.” 11 Now that (H)no one is justified [e]by [f]the Law before God is evident, [g]for “(I)The righteous shall live by faith.” 12 [h]However, the Law is not [i]of faith; rather, “(J)He who does them shall live [j]by them.” 13 Christ (K)redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us—for it is written, “(L)Cursed is everyone who hangs on (M)a [k]tree”— 14 in order that (N)in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might [l]come to the Gentiles, so that we (O)would receive (P)the promise of the Spirit through faith.
