⁴ And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,

⁵ Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I hallowed thee, I appointed thee a prophet unto the nations.

⁶ And I said, Alas, Lord Jehovah! behold, I cannot speak; for I am a child.

⁷ But Jehovah said unto me, Say not, I am a child; for thou shalt go to whomsoever I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak.

⁸ Be not afraid of them; for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith Jehovah.

⁹ And Jehovah put forth his hand and touched my mouth; and Jehovah said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.

¹⁰ See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to pluck up, and to break down, and to destroy, and to overthrow, to build and to plant.

71 In thee, Jehovah, do I trust: let me never be ashamed.

² Deliver me in thy righteousness, and rescue me; incline thine ear unto me, and save me.

³ Be to me a rock of habitation, whereunto I may continually resort: thou hast given commandment to save me; for thou art my rock and my fortress.

⁴ My God, rescue me out of the hand of the wicked, out of the hand of the unrighteous and cruel man.

⁵ For thou art my hope, O Lord Jehovah, my confidence from my youth.

⁶ On thee have I been stayed from the womb; from the bowels of my mother thou didst draw me forth: my praise shall be continually of thee.

13 If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.

² And if I have prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.

³ And if I shall dole out all my goods in food, and if I deliver up my body that I may be burned, but have not love, I profit nothing.

⁴ Love has long patience, is kind; love is not emulous [of others]; love is not insolent and rash, is not puffed up,

⁵ does not behave in an unseemly manner, does not seek what is its own, is not quickly provoked, does not impute evil,

⁶ does not rejoice at iniquity but rejoices with the truth,

⁷ bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

⁸ Love never fails; but whether prophecies, they shall be done away; or tongues, they shall cease; or knowledge, it shall be done away.

⁹ For we know in part, and we prophesy in part:

¹⁰ but when that which is perfect has come, that which is in part shall be done away.

¹¹ When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I felt as a child, I reasoned as a child; when I became a man, I had done with what belonged to the child.

¹² For we see now through a dim window obscurely, but then face to face; now I know partially, but then I shall know according as I also have been known.

¹³ And now abide faith, hope, love; these three things; and the greater of these [is] love.

²¹ And he began to say to them, To-day this scripture is fulfilled in your ears.

²² And all bore witness to him, and wondered at the words of grace which were coming out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this the son of Joseph?

²³ And he said to them, Ye will surely say to me this parable, Physician, heal thyself; whatsoever we have heard has taken place in Capernaum do here also in thine own country.

²⁴ And he said, Verily I say to you, that no prophet is acceptable in his [own] country.

²⁵ But of a truth I say to you, There were many widows in Israel in the days of Elias, when the heaven was shut up for three years and six months, so that a great famine came upon all the land,

²⁶ and to none of them was Elias sent but to Sarepta of Sidonia, to a woman [that was] a widow.

²⁷ And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet, and none of them was cleansed but Naaman the Syrian.

²⁸ And they were all filled with rage in the synagogue, hearing these things;

²⁹ and rising up they cast him forth out of the city, and led him up to the brow of the mountain upon which their city was built, so that they might throw him down the precipice;

³⁰ but *he*, passing through the midst of them, went his way,
