Psalm 22:23-31

23 You who fear the Lord, praise him!
All you descendants of Jacob, honor him!
Stand in awe of him, all you descendants of Israel!
24 For he has not despised nor detested the affliction of the afflicted.
He has not hidden his face from him,
but when he cried out to him, he heard.
25 You are the source of my praise in the great congregation.[a]
I will fulfill my vows in the presence of those who fear him.

The Glory of Messiah’s Kingdom

26 The poor will eat and be satisfied.
Those who seek him will praise the Lord
may he live in your hearts forever![b]
27 All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the Lord,
and all the families of the nations will bow down before you.
28 For the kingdom belongs to the Lord,
and he rules over the nations.
29 All the rich of the earth will eat and bow down.
All who go down to the dust will kneel before him—
those who cannot keep themselves alive.[c]
30 Descendants will serve him.
For generations people will be told about the Lord.
31 They will come and proclaim his righteousness
to a people yet to be born—
because he has done it.

Genesis 16:7-15

The Angel of the Lord found Hagar beside a flowing spring in the wilderness, beside the spring on the way to Shur. He said, “Hagar, servant girl of Sarai, where did you come from? Where are you going?”

She said, “I am fleeing from the presence of my mistress Sarai.”

The Angel of the Lord said to her, “Return to your mistress and submit to her authority.” 10 The Angel of the Lord said to her, “I will greatly multiply your descendants, so that they will be too many to count.” 11 The Angel of the Lord said to her, “Listen, you are expecting a child and will give birth to a son. You shall name him Ishmael,[a] because the Lord has heard your affliction. 12 He will be a wild donkey of a man. His hand will be against every man, and every man’s hand against him. He will dwell in hostility toward[b] all of his brothers.”

13 She called the name of the Lord who spoke to her, “You are a God who sees,” for she said, “Here have I really seen him who sees me?”[c] 14 Therefore the well was called Be’er Lahai Roi.[d] It is right there between Kadesh and Bered.

15 Hagar gave birth to a son for Abram. Abram named his son, whom Hagar bore, Ishmael.

Mark 8:27-30

Jesus Is the Christ

27 Jesus went away with his disciples to the villages of Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that I am?”

28 They told him, “John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others say one of the prophets.”

29 “But who do you say I am?” he asked them.

Peter answered him, “You are the Christ.”[a]

30 Then he warned them not to tell anyone about him.
