Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
23 You who fear the Lord, praise him!(A)
All you descendants of Jacob, honor him!
All you descendants of Israel, revere him!(B)
24 For he has not despised or abhorred
the torment of the oppressed.(C)
He did not hide his face from him(D)
but listened when he cried to him for help.(E)
25 I will give praise in the great assembly
because of you;(F)
I will fulfill my vows
before those who fear you.[a](G)
26 The humble will eat and be satisfied;(H)
those who seek the Lord will praise him.
May your hearts live forever!(I)
27 All the ends of the earth will remember
and turn to the Lord.
All the families of the nations
will bow down before you,(J)
28 for kingship belongs to the Lord;
he rules the nations.(K)
29 All who prosper on earth will eat and bow down;
all those who go down to the dust
will kneel before him—
even the one who cannot preserve his life.(L)
30 Their descendants will serve him;
the next generation will be told about the Lord.(M)
31 They will come and declare his righteousness;
to a people yet to be born
they will declare what he has done.(N)
7 The angel of the Lord(A) found her by a spring in the wilderness, the spring on the way to Shur. 8 He said, “Hagar, slave of Sarai, where have you come from and where are you going?”
She replied, “I’m running away from my mistress Sarai.”
9 The angel of the Lord said to her, “Go back to your mistress and submit to her authority.” 10 The angel of the Lord said to her, “I will greatly multiply your offspring,(B) and they will be too many to count.”
11 The angel of the Lord said to her, “You have conceived and will have a son. You will name him Ishmael,[a] for the Lord has heard your cry of affliction. 12 This man will be like a wild donkey. His hand will be against everyone, and everyone’s hand will be against him; he will settle near all his relatives.”(C)
13 So she named the Lord who spoke to her: “You are El-roi,”[b] for she said, “In this place, have I actually seen(D) the one who sees me?” [c] 14 That is why the well is called Beer-lahai-roi.[d] It is between Kadesh and Bered.
15 So Hagar gave birth to Abram’s son, and Abram named his son (whom Hagar bore) Ishmael.
Peter’s Confession of the Messiah
27 Jesus(A) went out with his disciples to the villages of Caesarea Philippi. And on the road he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that I am?”
28 They answered him, “John the Baptist;(B) others, Elijah; still others, one of the prophets.”(C)
29 “But you,” he asked them, “who do you say that I am?”
Peter(D) answered him, “You are the Messiah.”(E) 30 And he strictly warned(F) them to tell no one about him.
