Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
8 Then God said to Noah and his sons with him, 9 “Understand that I am establishing my covenant(A) with you and your descendants after you, 10 and with every living creature that is with you—birds, livestock, and all wildlife of the earth that are with you—all the animals of the earth that came out of the ark. 11 I establish my covenant with you that never again will every creature be wiped out by floodwaters; there will never again be a flood to destroy the earth.”(B)
12 And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant(C) I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all future generations: 13 I have placed my bow in the clouds,(D) and it will be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth. 14 Whenever I form clouds over the earth and the bow appears in the clouds, 15 I will remember my covenant(E) between me and you and all the living creatures: water will never again become a flood to destroy every creature. 16 The bow will be in the clouds, and I will look at it and remember the permanent covenant(F) between God and all the living creatures on earth.” 17 God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant that I have established between me and every creature on earth.”
Psalm 25
Dependence on the Lord
Of David.
1 Lord, I appeal to you.[a](A)
2 My God, I trust in you.
Do not let me be disgraced;(B)
do not let my enemies gloat over me.(C)
3 No one who waits for you
will be disgraced;(D)
those who act treacherously without cause
will be disgraced.(E)
4 Make your ways known to me, Lord;
teach me your paths.(F)
5 Guide me in your truth and teach me,(G)
for you are the God of my salvation;(H)
I wait for you all day long.(I)
6 Remember, Lord, your compassion
and your faithful love,
for they have existed from antiquity.[b](J)
7 Do not remember the sins of my youth(K)
or my acts of rebellion;(L)
in keeping with your faithful love, remember me
because of your goodness, Lord.(M)
18 For Christ also suffered(A) for sins once for all,(B) the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring you to God.(C) He was put to death in the flesh[a](D) but made alive by the Spirit,[b] 19 in which[c] he also went and made proclamation to the spirits(E) in prison 20 who in the past were disobedient, when God patiently waited in the days of Noah(F) while the ark was being prepared. In it a few—that is, eight people[d](G)—were saved through water. 21 Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you (not as the removal of dirt from the body,(H) but the pledge[e] of a good conscience toward God) through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,(I) 22 who has gone into heaven(J) and is at the right hand of God(K) with angels, authorities, and powers subject to him.(L)
The Baptism of Jesus
9 In(A) those days Jesus came from Nazareth(B) in Galilee(C) and was baptized in the Jordan by John. 10 As soon as he came up out of the water, he saw the heavens(D) being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. 11 And a voice(E) came from heaven:(F) “You are my beloved(G) Son;(H) with you I am well-pleased.”(I)
The Temptation of Jesus
12 Immediately(J) the Spirit(K) drove(L) him into the wilderness.(M) 13 He was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted(N) by Satan.(O) He was with the wild animals,(P) and the angels(Q) were serving him.
Ministry in Galilee
14 After(R) John was arrested,(S) Jesus went to Galilee,(T) proclaiming(U) the good news[a][b](V) of God:(W) 15 “The time(X) is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God(Y) has come(Z) near.(AA) Repent(AB) and believe(AC) the good news!”
