Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
To the Overcomer upon Gittith, A Psalm of David.
¶ O LORD our Lord, how great is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy praise above the heavens.
Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou might still the enemy and the avenger.
¶ When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;
what is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou dost visit him?
For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels and hast crowned him with glory and beauty.
Thou hast made him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:
all sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field;
The birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, and whatever passes through the paths of the seas.
O LORD our Lord, how great is thy name in all the earth!
¶ And it came to pass in those days when Moses was grown, that he went out unto his brethren and looked on their burdens, and he spied an Egyptian smiting a Hebrew, one of his brethren.
And he looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no one, he slew the Egyptian and hid him in the sand.
And when he went out the next day, behold, two men of the Hebrews strove together, and he said to him that did the wrong, Why smitest thou thy fellow?
And he said, Who made thee a prince and a judge over us? Doest thou intend to kill me as thou killed the Egyptian? And Moses feared and said, Surely this thing is known.
Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to slay Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh and dwelt in the land of Midian; and he sat down by a well.
¶ O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and of the knowledge of God! How incomprehensible are his judgments and his ways past finding out!
For who has understood the intent of the Lord? or who has been his counsellor?
Or who has first given unto him, that it be recompensed unto him again?
For of him and by him and in him are all things. To him be the glory for the ages. Amen.
