⁶ They therefore who were come together, asked him, saying: Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?

⁷ But he said to them: It is not for you to know the times or moments, which the Father hath put in his own power:

⁸ But you shall receive the power of the Holy Ghost coming upon you, and you shall be witnesses unto me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and Samaria, and even to the uttermost part of the earth.

⁹ And when he had said these things, while they looked on, he was raised up: and a cloud received him out of their sight.

¹⁰ And while they were beholding him going up to heaven, behold two men stood by them in white garments.

¹¹ Who also said: Ye men of Galilee, why stand you looking up to heaven? This Jesus who is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come, as you have seen him going into heaven.

¹² Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount that is called Olivet, which is nigh Jerusalem, within a sabbath day's journey.

¹³ And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode Peter and John, James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James of Alpheus, and Simon Zelotes, and Jude the brother of James.

¹⁴ All these were persevering with one mind in prayer with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

² SAVE me, O God: for the waters are come in even unto my soul.

³ I stick fast in the mire of the deep: and there is no sure standing. I am come into the depth of the sea: and a tempest hath overwhelmed me.

⁴ I have laboured with crying; my jaws are become hoarse: my eyes have failed, whilst I hope in my God.

⁵ They are multiplied above the hairs of my head, who hate me without cause. My enemies are grown strong who have wrongfully persecuted me: then did I pay that which I took not away.

⁶ O God, thou knowest my foolishness; and my offences are not hidden from thee:

⁷ Let not them be ashamed for me, who look for thee, O Lord, the Lord of hosts. Let them not be confounded on my account, who seek thee, O God of Israel.

⁸ Because for thy sake I have borne reproach; shame hath covered my face.

⁹ I am become a stranger to my brethren, and an alien to the sons of my mother.

¹⁰ For the zeal of thy house hath eaten me up: and the reproaches of them that reproached thee are fallen upon me.

³² And it shall please God better than a young calf, that bringeth forth horns and hoofs.

³³ Let the poor see and rejoice: seek ye God, and your soul shall live.

³⁴ For the Lord hath heard the poor: and hath not despised his prisoners.

³⁵ Let the heavens and the earth praise him; the sea, and every thing that creepeth therein.

¹² Dearly beloved, think not strange the burning heat which is to try you, as if some new thing happened to you;

¹³ But if you partake of the sufferings of Christ, rejoice that when his glory shall be revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy.

¹⁴ If you be reproached for the name of Christ, you shall be blessed: for that which is of the honour, glory, and power of God, and that which is his Spirit, resteth upon you.

⁶ Be you humbled therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in the time of visitation:

⁷ Casting all your care upon him, for he hath care of you.

⁸ Be sober and watch: because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, goeth about seeking whom he may devour.

⁹ Whom resist ye, strong in faith: knowing that the same affliction befalls your brethren who are in the world.

¹⁰ But the God of all grace, who hath called us into his eternal glory in Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a little, will himself perfect you, and confirm you, and establish you.

¹¹ To him be glory and empire for ever and ever. Amen.

17 These things Jesus spoke, and lifting up his eyes to heaven, he said: Father, the hour is come, glorify thy Son, that thy Son may glorify thee.

² As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he may give eternal life to all whom thou hast given him.

³ Now this is eternal life: That they may know thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

⁴ I have glorified thee on the earth; I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.

⁵ And now glorify thou me, O Father, with thyself, with the glory which I had, before the world was, with thee.

⁶ I have manifested thy name to the men whom thou hast given me out of the world. Thine they were, and to me thou gavest them; and they have kept thy word.

⁷ Now they have known, that all things which thou hast given me, are from thee:

⁸ Because the words which thou gavest me, I have given to them; and they have received them, and have known in very deed that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.

⁹ I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them whom thou hast given me: because they are thine:

¹⁰ And all my things are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them.

¹¹ And now I am not in the world, and these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep them in thy name whom thou has given me; that they may be one, as we also are.
