Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
7 (A)Hear, O Lord, when I cry aloud;
be gracious to me and answer me!
8 You have said, (B)“Seek[a] my face.”
My heart says to you,
“Your face, Lord, do I seek.”[b]
9 (C)Hide not your face from me.
Turn not your servant away in anger,
O you who have been my help.
Cast me not off; forsake me not,
(D)O God of my salvation!
10 For (E)my father and my mother have forsaken me,
but the Lord will (F)take me in.
8 “Judah, (A)your brothers shall praise you;
(B)your hand shall be on the neck of your enemies;
(C)your father's sons shall bow down before you.
9 Judah is (D)a lion's cub;
from the prey, my son, you have gone up.
(E)He stooped down; he crouched as a lion
and as a lioness; who dares rouse him?
10 The (F)scepter shall not depart from Judah,
nor the ruler's staff (G)from between his feet,
until tribute comes to him;[a]
and to him shall be the obedience of the peoples.
11 Binding his foal to the vine
and his donkey's colt to the choice vine,
he has washed his garments in wine
and his vesture in the blood of grapes.
12 His (H)eyes are darker than wine,
and his teeth whiter than milk.
22 “Joseph is (B)a fruitful bough,
a fruitful bough by a spring;
his branches run over the wall.[b]
23 The archers (C)bitterly attacked him,
shot at him, and harassed him severely,
24 yet (D)his bow remained unmoved;
his arms[c] were made agile
by the hands of the (E)Mighty One of Jacob
(from there is (F)the Shepherd,[d] (G)the Stone of Israel),
25 (H)by the God of your father who will help you,
by (I)the Almighty[e] (J)who will bless you
with blessings of heaven above,
blessings of the deep that crouches beneath,
blessings of the breasts and of the womb.
26 The blessings of your father
are mighty beyond the blessings of my parents,
up to the bounties (K)of the everlasting hills.[f]
May they be (L)on the head of Joseph,
and on the brow of him who was set apart from his brothers.
Zechariah's Prophecy
67 And his father Zechariah (A)was filled with the Holy Spirit and (B)prophesied, saying,
68 (C)“Blessed be the Lord (D)God of Israel,
for he has (E)visited and (F)redeemed his people
69 and (G)has raised up (H)a horn of salvation for us
(I)in the house of his servant David,
70 (J)as (K)he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets from of old,
71 (L)that we should be saved from our enemies
and from the hand of all who hate us;
72 (M)to show the mercy promised to our fathers
and (N)to remember his holy (O)covenant,
73 (P)the oath that he swore to our father Abraham, to grant us
74 that we, being delivered from the hand of our enemies,
might serve him (Q)without fear,
75 (R)in holiness and righteousness before him (S)all our days.
76 And you, child, will be called (T)the prophet of (U)the Most High;
for (V)you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways,
77 to give knowledge of salvation to his people
(W)in the forgiveness of their sins,
78 because of the (X)tender mercy of our God,
whereby (Y)the sunrise shall (Z)visit us[a] (AA)from on high
79 to (AB)give light to (AC)those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death,
to guide our feet into (AD)the way of (AE)peace.”
