Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
5 Let (A)the heavens praise your (B)wonders, O Lord,
your faithfulness in the assembly of (C)the holy ones!
6 For (D)who in the skies can be compared to the Lord?
(E)Who among the heavenly beings[a] is like the Lord,
7 a God greatly (F)to be feared in the council of (G)the holy ones,
and awesome above all (H)who are around him?
8 O Lord God of hosts,
(I)who is mighty as you are, O (J)Lord,
with your faithfulness all around you?
9 You rule the raging of the sea;
when its waves rise, you (K)still them.
10 You (L)crushed (M)Rahab like a carcass;
you (N)scattered your enemies with your mighty arm.
11 (O)The heavens are yours; the earth also is yours;
(P)the world and all that is in it, you have (Q)founded them.
12 (R)The north and the south, you have created them;
(S)Tabor and (T)Hermon (U)joyously praise your name.
13 You have a mighty arm;
strong is your hand, high your right hand.
14 (V)Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne;
(W)steadfast love and faithfulness go before you.
15 Blessed are the people who know (X)the festal shout,
who walk, O Lord, in (Y)the light of your face,
16 who exult in your (Z)name all the day
and in your righteousness are (AA)exalted.
17 For you are (AB)the glory of their strength;
by your favor our (AC)horn is exalted.
18 For our (AD)shield belongs to the Lord,
our king to (AE)the Holy One of Israel.
19 (AF)Of old you spoke in a vision to your godly one,[b] and said:
“I have (AG)granted help to one who is (AH)mighty;
I have exalted one (AI)chosen from the people.
20 (AJ)I have found David, my servant;
with my holy oil I have (AK)anointed him,
21 so that my (AL)hand shall be established with him;
my arm also shall strengthen him.
22 The enemy shall not outwit him;
(AM)the wicked shall not humble him.
23 I will (AN)crush his foes before him
and strike down those who hate him.
24 My (AO)faithfulness and my (AP)steadfast love shall be with him,
and in my name shall his (AQ)horn be exalted.
25 I will set his hand on (AR)the sea
and his right hand on (AS)the rivers.
26 He shall cry to me, ‘You are my (AT)Father,
my God, and (AU)the Rock of my salvation.’
27 And I will make him the (AV)firstborn,
(AW)the highest of the kings of the earth.
28 My steadfast love I will keep for him forever,
and my (AX)covenant will stand firm[c] for him.
29 I will establish his (AY)offspring forever
and his (AZ)throne as (BA)the days of the heavens.
30 (BB)If his children forsake my law
and do not walk according to my rules,[d]
31 if they violate my statutes
and do not keep my commandments,
32 then I will punish their transgression with (BC)the rod
and their iniquity with stripes,
33 but I will not remove from him my steadfast love
or be false to my faithfulness.
34 I will not violate my (BD)covenant
or alter the word that went forth from my lips.
35 Once for all I have sworn (BE)by my holiness;
I will not (BF)lie to David.
36 His (BG)offspring shall endure forever,
(BH)his (BI)throne as long as (BJ)the sun before me.
37 Like (BK)the moon it shall be established forever,
(BL)a faithful witness in the skies.” Selah
The Call of Jeremiah
4 Now the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
5 (A)“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
and before you were born (B)I consecrated you;
I appointed you a prophet (C)to the nations.”
6 Then I said, “Ah, Lord God! Behold, (D)I do not know how to speak, (E)for I am only a youth.” 7 But the Lord said to me,
“Do not say, ‘I am only a youth’;
for to all to whom I send you, you shall go,
and (F)whatever I command you, you shall speak.
8 (G)Do not be afraid of them,
(H)for I am with you to deliver you,
declares the Lord.”
9 (I)Then the Lord put out his hand and (J)touched my mouth. And the Lord said to me,
Philip Proclaims Christ in Samaria
4 Now (A)those who were scattered went about preaching the word. 5 (B)Philip went down to the city[a] of Samaria and proclaimed to them the Christ. 6 (C)And the crowds with one accord paid attention to what was being said by Philip, when they heard him (D)and saw the signs that he did. 7 For (E)unclean spirits, crying out with a loud voice, came out of many who had them, and many who were paralyzed or lame were healed. 8 So (F)there was much joy in that city.
Simon the Magician Believes
9 But there was a man named Simon, (G)who had previously practiced magic in the city and amazed the people of Samaria, (H)saying that he himself was somebody great. 10 They all paid attention to him, from the least to the greatest, saying, (I)“This man is the power of God that is called (J)Great.” 11 And they paid attention to him because for a long time he had (K)amazed them with his magic. 12 But when (L)they believed Philip as he preached good news (M)about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, (N)they were baptized, both men and women. 13 Even Simon himself believed, and after being baptized he continued with Philip. And (O)seeing signs and (P)great miracles[b] performed, (Q)he was amazed.
