Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
76 1 This Psalm setteth forth the power of God, and care for the defense of his people in Jerusalem, in the destruction of the army of Sennacherib: 11 and exhorteth the faithful to be thankful for the same.
To him that excelleth on Neginoth. A Psalm, or song committed to Asaph.
1 God is [a]known in Judah: his Name is great in Israel.
2 For in [b]Salem is his Tabernacle, and his dwelling in Zion.
3 There brake he the arrows of the bow, the shield, and the sword, and the battle. Selah.
4 Thou art more bright and puissant, than [c]the mountains of prey.
5 The stouthearted are spoiled: they have slept their sleep, and all the men of strength have not [d]found their hands.
6 At thy rebuke, O God of Jacob, both the chariot and horse are cast asleep.
7 Thou, even thou art to be feared; and who shall stand in thy [e]sight, when thou art angry!
8 Thou didst cause thy judgment to be heard from heaven; therefore the earth feared, and was still,
9 When thou, O God, arose to judgment, to [f]help all the meek of the earth. Selah.
10 Surely the [g]rage of man shall turn to thy praise; the remnant of the rage shalt thou restrain.
11 Vow and perform unto the Lord your God, all ye that be [h]round about him; let them bring presents unto him that ought to be feared.
12 He shall [i]cut off the spirit of princes; he is terrible to the kings of the earth.
17 For brass will I bring gold, and for iron will I bring silver, and for wood brass, and for stones iron. I will also make thy government [a]peace, and thine exactors righteousness.
18 Violence shall no more be heard of in thy land, neither desolation, nor destruction within thy borders: but thou shalt [b]call salvation, thy walls, and praise, thy gates.
19 Thou shalt have no more Sun to shine by day, neither shall the brightness of the [c]Moon shine unto thee: for the Lord shall be thine everlasting light, and thy God, thy glory.
20 Thy Sun shall never go down, neither shall thy Moon be hid: for the Lord shall be thine everlasting light, and the days of thy sorrow shall be ended.
21 Thy people also shall be all righteous: they shall possess the land forever, the [d]grass of my planting shall be the work of mine hands, that I may be glorified.
22 A little one shall become as a [e]thousand, and a small one as a strong nation: I the Lord will hasten it in due time.
25 [a]Wherefore cast off lying, and speak every man truth unto his neighbor: for we are members one of another.
26 [b]Be [c]angry, but sin not: let not the sun go down [d]upon your wrath,
27 Neither give place to the devil.
28 [e]Let him that stole, steal no more: but let him rather labor, and work with his hands the thing which is [f]good, that he may have to give unto him that needeth.
29 [g]Let no [h]corrupt communication proceed out of your mouths: but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister [i]grace unto the hearers.
30 [j]And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, by whom ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
31 Let all bitterness, and anger, and wrath, crying, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all maliciousness.
32 Be ye courteous one to another, and tender hearted, freely forgiving one another, [k]even as God for Christ’s sake, freely forgave you.
5 3 Lest, in those vices which he reprehended, they should set light by his admonitions, 5 he terrifieth them by denouncing severe judgment, 8 and stirreth them forward: 15 Then he defendeth from general lessons of manners, 22 to the particular duties of wives, 25 and husbands.
1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children,
2 (A)And walk in love, even as Christ hath loved us, and hath given himself for us, to be an offering and a sacrifice of a sweet smelling savor to God.
