Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)

1 Blessed is the man who hath not walked in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stood in the way of sinners, nor sat in the chair of pestilence.

² But his will is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he shall meditate day and night.

³ And he shall be like a tree which is planted near the running waters, which shall bring forth its fruit, in due season. And his leaf shall not fall off: and all whatsoever he shall do shall prosper.

⁴ Not so the wicked, not so: but like the dust, which the wind driveth from the face of the earth.

⁵ Therefore the wicked shall not rise again in judgment: nor sinners in the council of the just.

⁶ For the Lord knoweth the way of the just: and the way of the wicked shall perish.

30 The words of Gatherer the son of Vomiter. The vision which the man spoke with whom God is, and who being strengthened by God, abiding with him, said:

² I am the most foolish of men, and the wisdom of men is not with me.

³ I have not learned wisdom, and have not known the science of saints.

⁴ Who hath ascended up into heaven, and descended? who hath held the wind in his hands? who hath bound up the waters together as in a garment? who hath raised up all the borders of the earth? what is his name, and what is the name of his son, if thou knowest?

⁵ Every word of God is fire tried: he is a buckler to them that hope in him.

⁶ Add not any thing to his words, lest thou be reproved, and found a liar:

⁷ Two things I have asked of thee, deny them not to me before I die.

⁸ Remove far from me vanity, and lying words. Give me neither beggary, nor riches: give me only the necessaries of life:

⁹ Lest perhaps being filled, I should be tempted to deny, and say: Who is the Lord? or being compelled by poverty, I should steal, and forswear the name of my God.

¹⁰ Accuse not a servant to his master, lest he curse thee, and thou fall.

2 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not in loftiness of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of Christ.

² For I judged not myself to know anything among you, but Jesus Christ, and him crucified.

³ And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling.

⁴ And my speech and my preaching was not in the persuasive words of human wisdom, but in shewing of the Spirit and power;

⁵ That your faith might not stand on the wisdom of men, but on the power of God.
