Psalm 29

God in the Thunderstorm

A song of David.

29 Praise the Lord, you angels.
Praise the Lord’s glory and power.
Praise the Lord for the glory of his name.
Worship the Lord because he is holy.

The Lord’s voice is heard over the sea.
    The glorious God thunders.
The Lord thunders over the great ocean.
The Lord’s voice is powerful.
    The Lord’s voice is majestic.
The Lord’s voice breaks the trees.
The Lord breaks the cedars of Lebanon.
He makes the land of Lebanon dance like a calf.
He makes Mount Hermon jump like a baby bull.
The Lord’s voice makes the lightning flash.
The Lord’s voice shakes the desert.
The Lord shakes the Desert of Kadesh.
The Lord’s voice shakes the oaks.
The leaves fall off the trees.
In his Temple everyone says, “Glory to God!”

10 The Lord controls the flood.
The Lord will be King forever.
11 The Lord gives strength to his people.
The Lord blesses his people with peace.

Isaiah 2:1-5

The Message About Jerusalem

Isaiah son of Amoz saw this message about Judah and Jerusalem.

In the last days
the mountain on which the Lord’s Temple stands
will become the most important of all mountains.
It will be raised above the hills.
And people from all nations will come streaming to it.
Many nations will come and say,
“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord.
Let us go to the Temple of the God of Jacob.
Then God will teach us his ways.
And we will obey his teachings.”
The Lord’s teachings will go out from Jerusalem.
The Lord’s message will go out from Jerusalem.
Then the Lord will settle arguments among many nations.
He will make decisions for strong nations that are far away.
Then the nations will make their swords into plows.
They will make their spears into hooks for trimming trees.
Nations will no longer fight other nations.
They will not even train for war anymore.

Come, family of Jacob.
We should follow the way of the Lord.

Romans 8:9-11

But you are not ruled by your sinful selves. You are ruled by the Spirit, if that Spirit of God really lives in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, then he does not belong to Christ. 10 Your body will always be dead because of sin. But if Christ is in you, then the Spirit gives you life, because Christ made you right with God. 11 God raised Jesus from death. And if God’s Spirit is living in you, then he will also give life to your bodies that die. God is the One who raised Christ from death. And he will give life through[a] his Spirit that lives in you.
