Psalm 47

God, the King of the World

For the director of music. A song of the sons of Korah.

47 Clap your hands, all you people.
    Shout to God with joy.
The Lord Most High is wonderful.
He is the great King over all the earth!
He defeated nations for us
and put them under our control.
He chose the land we would inherit.
We are the children of Jacob, whom he loved. Selah

God has risen with a shout of joy.
The Lord has risen as the trumpets sounded.
Sing praises to God. Sing praises.
Sing praises to our King. Sing praises.
God is King of all the earth.
So sing a song of praise to him.
God is King over the nations.
God sits on his holy throne.
The leaders of the nations meet
with the people of the God of Abraham.
Even the leaders of the earth belong to God.
    He is supreme.

Deuteronomy 34:1-7

Moses Dies

34 Then Moses climbed up Mount Nebo. He went from the plains of Moab to the top of Mount Pisgah. It is across from Jericho. From there the Lord showed him all the land. He could see from Gilead to Dan. He could see all of Naphtali and the lands of Ephraim and Manasseh. He could see all the land of Judah as far as the Mediterranean Sea. He could see the southern desert and the whole Valley of Jericho up to Zoar. Jericho is called the city of palm trees. Then the Lord said to Moses, “This is the land I promised to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. I said to them, ‘I will give this land to your descendants.’ I have let you look at it, Moses. But you will not cross over there.”

Then Moses, the servant of the Lord, died there in Moab. It was as the Lord had said. The Lord buried Moses in Moab in the valley opposite Beth Peor. But even today no one knows where his grave is. Moses was 120 years old when he died. His eyes were not weak. And he was still strong.

John 16:4-11

I have told you these things now. So when the time comes, you will remember that I warned you.

The Work of the Holy Spirit

“I did not tell you these things at the beginning, because I was with you then. Now I am going back to the One who sent me. But none of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’ Your hearts are filled with sadness because I have told you these things. But I tell you the truth. It is better for you that I go away. When I go away I will send the Helper[a] to you. If I do not go away, then the Helper will not come. When the Helper comes, he will prove to the people of the world the truth about sin, about being right with God, and about judgment. He will prove to them about sin, because they don’t believe in me. 10 He will prove to them that I am right with God, because I am going to the Father. You will not see me anymore. 11 And the Helper will prove to them the truth about judgment, because the ruler of this world is already judged.
