Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
He.
33 (A)Teach me, O Lord, the way of Your statutes,
And I shall observe it to the end.
34 (B)Give me understanding, that I may (C)observe Your law
And keep it (D)with all my heart.
35 Make me walk in the (E)path of Your commandments,
For I (F)delight in it.
36 (G)Incline my heart to Your testimonies
And not to (H)dishonest gain.
37 Turn away my (I)eyes from looking at vanity,
And (J)revive me in Your ways.
38 (K)Establish Your [a]word to Your servant,
[b]As that which produces reverence for You.
39 (L)Turn away my reproach which I dread,
For Your ordinances are good.
40 Behold, I (M)long for Your precepts;
Revive me through Your righteousness.
10 Now the son of an Israelite woman, whose father was an Egyptian, went out among the sons of Israel; and the Israelite woman’s son and a man of Israel struggled with each other in the camp. 11 The son of the Israelite woman blasphemed the (A)Name and cursed. So they brought him to Moses. (Now his mother’s name was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan.) 12 They put him in [a]custody [b]so that (B)the command of the Lord might be made clear to them.
13 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 14 “Bring the one who has cursed outside the camp, and let all who heard him (C)lay their hands on his head; then (D)let all the congregation stone him. 15 You shall speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘(E)If anyone curses his God, then he will bear his sin. 16 Moreover, the one who (F)blasphemes the name of the Lord shall surely be put to death; all the congregation shall certainly stone him. The alien as well as the native, when he blasphemes the Name, shall be put to death.
“An Eye for an Eye”
17 ‘(G)If a man [c]takes the life of any human being, he shall surely be put to death. 18 (H)The one who [d]takes the life of an animal shall make it good, life for life. 19 If a man [e]injures his neighbor, just as he has done, so it shall be done to him: 20 (I)fracture for fracture, (J)eye for eye, tooth for tooth; just as he has [f]injured a man, so it shall be [g]inflicted on him. 21 Thus the one who [h]kills an animal shall make it good, but (K)the one who [i]kills a man shall be put to death. 22 There shall be (L)one [j]standard for you; it shall be for the stranger as well as the native, for I am the Lord your God.’” 23 Then Moses spoke to the sons of Israel, and they brought the one who had cursed outside the camp and stoned him with stones. Thus the sons of Israel did, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.
Judging Others
7 “(A)Do not judge so that you will not be judged. 2 For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and [a](B)by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you. 3 Why do you (C)look at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 4 (D)Or how [b]can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ and behold, the log is in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.
6 “(E)Do not give what is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before swine, or they will trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.
Prayer and the Golden Rule
7 “[c](F)Ask, and (G)it will be given to you; [d]seek, and you will find; [e]knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. 9 Or what man is there among you [f]who, when his son asks for a loaf, [g]will give him a stone? 10 Or [h]if he asks for a fish, he will not give him a snake, will he? 11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, (H)how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!
12 “In everything, (I)therefore, [i]treat people the same way you want [j]them to treat you, for (J)this is the Law and the Prophets.
