Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
Yahweh Takes Pleasure in His People
149 [a]Praise Yah!
Sing to Yahweh a (A)new song,
His praise (B)in the assembly of the holy ones.
2 Let Israel be glad in (C)his Maker;
Let the sons of Zion rejoice in their (D)King.
3 Let them praise His name with (E)dancing;
With (F)tambourine and lyre let them sing praises to Him.
4 For Yahweh (G)takes pleasure in His people;
He will (H)beautify the afflicted ones with salvation.
5 Let the (I)holy ones exult in glory;
Let them (J)sing for joy on their beds.
6 Let the (K)exaltations of God be in their throats,
And a (L)two-edged (M)sword in their hand,
7 To (N)execute vengeance on the nations
And punishments on the peoples,
8 To bind their kings (O)with chains
And their (P)honored men with fetters of iron,
9 To (Q)execute on them the judgment written;
This is the (R)majesty of all His holy ones.
[b]Praise Yah!
Yahweh Says One More Plague
11 Then Yahweh said to Moses, “One more plague I will bring on Pharaoh and on Egypt; (A)after that he will let you go from here. When he lets you go, he will surely drive you out from here completely. 2 Speak now in the [a]hearing of the people so that (B)each man may ask from his neighbor and each woman from her neighbor for articles of silver and articles of gold.” 3 (C)(And Yahweh gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians. (D)Moreover, the man Moses himself was very great in the land of Egypt, both in the sight of Pharaoh’s servants and in the sight of the people.)
4 So Moses said, “Thus says Yahweh, ‘About (E)midnight I am going out into the midst of Egypt, 5 and (F)all the firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of the Pharaoh who sits on his throne, even to the firstborn of the servant-girl who is behind the millstones; and all the firstborn of the cattle. 6 Moreover, there shall be (G)a great cry in all the land of Egypt, such as there has not been before and such as shall never be again. 7 (H)But for any of the sons of Israel a dog will not even [b]bark, whether against man or beast, that you may know how Yahweh makes a distinction between Egypt and Israel.’ 8 (I)Then all these your servants will come down to me and bow themselves [c]before me, saying, ‘Go out, you and all the people who [d]follow you,’ and after that I will go out.” (J)And he went out from Pharaoh in hot anger.
9 Then Yahweh said to Moses, “(K)Pharaoh will not listen to you, so (L)that My miraculous wonders will be multiplied in the land of Egypt.” 10 (M)Now Moses and Aaron did all these miraculous wonders before Pharaoh; yet (N)Yahweh [e]hardened Pharaoh’s heart with strength, and he did not let the sons of Israel go out of his land.
29 “(A)Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you build the tombs of the prophets and adorn the monuments of the righteous, 30 and say, ‘If we had been living in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partners with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.’ 31 So you bear witness against yourselves, that you (B)are [a]sons of those who murdered the prophets. 32 Fill up, then, the measure of the guilt of your fathers. 33 You serpents, (C)you brood of vipers, how [b]will you escape the [c]sentence of [d](D)hell?
34 “(E)On account of this, behold, (F)I am sending you prophets and wise men and scribes; some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will (G)flog in your synagogues, and (H)persecute from city to city, 35 so that upon you may fall the guilt of all the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous (I)Abel to the blood of Zechariah, the (J)son of Berechiah, whom (K)you murdered between the sanctuary and the altar. 36 Truly I say to you, all these things will come upon (L)this generation.
