Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
O God, Do Not Be Quiet
A Song. A Psalm of Asaph.
83 O God, (A)do not remain at rest;
(B)Do not be silent and, O God, do not be quiet.
2 For behold, Your enemies (C)roar,
And (D)those who hate You have (E)lifted up their heads.
3 They (F)make shrewd plans against Your people,
And [a]conspire together against (G)Your [b]treasured ones.
4 They have said, “Come, and (H)let us wipe them out [c]as a nation,
That the (I)name of Israel be remembered no more.”
13 O my God, make them like the [a](A)whirling dust,
Like (B)chaff before the wind.
14 Like (C)fire that burns the forest
And like a flame that (D)burns up the mountains,
15 So pursue them (E)with Your tempest
And dismay them with Your storm.
16 (F)Fill their faces with disgrace,
That they may seek Your name, O Yahweh.
17 Let them be (G)ashamed and dismayed forever,
And let them be humiliated and perish,
18 That they may (H)know that (I)You alone—Your name is Yahweh—
Are the (J)Most High over all the earth.
Aaron to Speak for Moses
10 Then Moses said to Yahweh, “Please, Lord, (A)I have never been a man of words, neither [a]recently nor in time past, nor since You have spoken to Your slave; for I am one with a [b]hard mouth and a [c]hard tongue.” 11 And Yahweh said to him, “Who has made man’s mouth? Or (B)who makes him mute or deaf, or seeing or blind? Is it not I, Yahweh? 12 So now, go, and (C)I, even I, will be with your mouth and will (D)instruct you what you shall speak.” 13 But he said, “Please, Lord, [d]send now the message by whomever You will.” 14 Then the anger of Yahweh burned against Moses, and He said, “Is there not your brother Aaron the Levite? I know that [e]he can certainly speak. And moreover, behold, (E)he is coming out to meet you. And he will see you and be glad in his heart. 15 And you are to speak to him and (F)put the words in his mouth; and I, even I, will be with your mouth and with his mouth, and I will instruct [f]you in what you shall do. 16 Moreover, (G)he shall speak for you to the people; and he will become as a mouth for you, and you will become as God to him. 17 And you shall take in your hand (H)this staff, (I)with which you shall do the signs.”
Moses Returns to Egypt
18 Then Moses went and returned to [g]Jethro (J)his father-in-law and said to him, “Please, let me go, that I may return to my brothers who are in Egypt and see if they are still alive.” And Jethro said to Moses, “Go in peace.” 19 And Yahweh said to Moses in Midian, “Go, return to Egypt, for (K)all the men who were seeking your life are dead.” 20 So Moses took his wife and his (L)sons and mounted them on a donkey and returned to the land of Egypt. Moses also took the (M)staff of God in his hand.
21 And Yahweh said to Moses, “When you go to return to Egypt, see to it that all (N)the miraculous wonders which I have put in your hand, that you do them before Pharaoh; but as for Me, (O)I will [h]harden his heart with strength so that he will not let the people go. 22 Then you shall say to Pharaoh, ‘Thus says Yahweh, “(P)Israel is My son, My firstborn. 23 So I said to you, ‘(Q)Let My son go that he may serve Me’; but you have refused to let him go. Behold, (R)I will kill your son, your firstborn.”’”
24 Now it happened at the lodging place on the way that Yahweh encountered him and (S)sought to put him to death. 25 Then Zipporah took (T)a flint and cut off her son’s foreskin and touched [i]his feet with it, and she said, “You are indeed a bridegroom of blood to me!” 26 So He let him alone. At that time she said, “You are a bridegroom of blood” with reference to the circumcision.
27 (U)Then Yahweh said to Aaron, “Go to meet Moses in the wilderness.” So he went and encountered him at the (V)mountain of God and kissed him. 28 (W)And Moses told Aaron all the words of Yahweh with which He had sent him, and (X)all the signs that He had commanded him to do. 29 Then Moses and Aaron went and (Y)gathered all the elders of the sons of Israel; 30 and (Z)Aaron spoke all the words which Yahweh had spoken to Moses. He then did the (AA)signs in the sight of the people. 31 So (AB)the people believed; and they heard that Yahweh [j](AC)cared about the sons of Israel and that He had seen their affliction. So (AD)they bowed low and worshiped.
To the Church in Sardis
3 “And to the angel of the church in (A)Sardis write:
This is what He who has (B)the seven Spirits of God and (C)the seven stars, says: ‘(D)I know your deeds, that you have a name that you are alive, [a]but you are (E)dead. 2 Wake up, and strengthen the things that remain, which were about to die, for I have not found your deeds complete in the sight of My God. 3 So (F)remember [b]what you have received and heard; and keep it, and (G)repent. Therefore if you do not wake up, (H)I will come (I)like a thief, and you will not know at (J)what hour I will come to you. 4 But you have a few [c](K)names in (L)Sardis who have not (M)defiled their garments, and they will walk with Me (N)in white, for they are worthy. 5 (O)He who overcomes will thus be clothed in (P)white garments, and I will never (Q)erase his name from the book of life, and (R)I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels. 6 (S)He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’
