Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
13 1 David as it were overcome with sundry and new afflictions, fleeth to God as his only refuge, 3 and so at the length being encouraged through God’s promises, he conceiveth most sure confidence against the extreme horrors of death.
To him that excelleth. A Psalm of David.
1 How long wilt thou forget me, O Lord, [a]forever? how long wilt thou hide thy face from me?
2 How long shall I take [b]counsel within myself having weariness daily in mine heart? how long shall mine enemy be exalted above me?
3 Behold, and hear me, O Lord my God: lighten mine eyes, that I sleep not in death.
4 Lest mine enemy say, I have [c]prevailed against him: and they that afflict me, rejoice, when I slide.
5 But I trust in thy [d]mercy: mine heart shall rejoice in thy salvation; I will sing to the Lord, because he hath [e]dealt lovingly with me.
12 Of the destruction and building again of Jerusalem.
1 The burden of the word of the Lord upon [a]Israel, saith the Lord, which spread the heavens, and laid the foundation of the earth, and formed the spirit of man within him.
2 Behold, I will make Jerusalem a[b]cup of poison unto all the people round about: and also with Judah will he be in the siege against Jerusalem.
3 And in that day will I make Jerusalem an heavy stone for all people: all that lift it up, shall be torn, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.
4 In that day, saith the Lord, I will smite every horse with astonishment, and his rider with madness, and I will open mine eyes upon the house of Judah, and will smite every horse of the people with blindness.
5 And the princes of Judah shall say in their hearts, The [c]inhabitants of Jerusalem shall be my strength in the Lord of hosts their God.
6 In that day will I make the princes of Judah like coals of fire among the wood, and like a firebrand in the sheaf, and they shall devour all the people round about on the right hand, and on the left: and Jerusalem shall be inhabited again in her own place, even in Jerusalem.
7 The Lord also shall preserve the [d]tents of Judah, as afore time: therefore the glory of the house of David shall not boast, nor the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem against Judah.
8 In that day shall the Lord defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and he that is feeble among them, in that day shall be as David: and the house of David shall be as God’s house, and as the Angel of the Lord before them.
9 And in that day will I seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.
10 And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the Spirit of [e]grace and of compassion, and they shall look upon me, whom they have [f]pierced, and they shall lament for [g]him, as one mourneth for his only son, and be sorry for him as one is sorry for his firstborn.
11 In that day shall there be a great mourning in Jerusalem, as the [h]mourning of [i]Hadad Rimmon in the valley of Megiddo.
12 And the [j]land shall bewail every family [k]apart, the family of the [l]house of David apart, and their wives apart: the family of the house of Nathan apart, and their wives apart:
13 The family of the house of Levi apart, and their wives apart: the family of [m]Shemei apart, and their wives apart:
14 All the families that [n]remain, every family apart, and their wives apart.
13 1 Of the fountain of grace. 2 Of the clean riddance of idolatry. 3 The zeal of the godly against false prophets.
1 In that day there [o]shall be a fountain opened to the house of David, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, for sin and for uncleanness.
9 But take ye heed to yourselves: for they shall deliver you up to the Councils, and to the Synagogues: ye shall be beaten, and brought before rulers and kings for my sake, for a [a]testimonial unto them.
10 And the Gospel must first be published among all nations.
11 (A)But when they lead you, and deliver you up, [b]be not careful before hand, [c]neither study what ye shall say: but what is given you at the same time, that speak: for it is not you that speak, but the holy Ghost.
12 Yea, and the brother shall deliver the brother to death, and the father the son, and the children shall rise against their parents, and shall cause them to die.
13 And ye shall be hated of all men [d]for my Name’s sake: but whosoever shall endure unto the end, he shall be saved.
14 (B)Moreover, when ye shall see the abomination of desolation (spoken of by (C)Daniel the Prophet) [e]set where it ought not, (let him that readeth, consider it) then let them that be in Judea, flee into the mountains.
15 And let him that is upon the house, not come down into the house, neither enter therein, to fetch anything out of his house.
16 And let him that is in the field, not turn back again to take his garment.
17 Then woe shall be to them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days.
18 Pray therefore that your flight be not in the winter.
19 For [f]those days shall be such tribulation, as was not from the beginning of the creation which God created unto this time, neither shall be.
20 And except that the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh should be saved: but for the elect’s sake, which he hath chosen, he hath shortened those days.
21 Then (D)if any man say to you, Lo, here is Christ, or lo, he is there, believe it not.
22 For false Christs shall rise, and false prophets, and shall show signs and wonders, to deceive if it were possible the very elect.
23 But take ye heed: behold, I have showed you all things before.
