Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
12 Teach us so to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto [a]wisdom.
13 Return (O Lord, [b]how long?) and be [c]pacified toward thy servants.
14 Fill us with thy mercy in the morning: so shall we rejoice and be glad all our days?
15 Comfort us according to the days that thou hast afflicted us, and according to the years that we have seen evil.
16 [d]Let thy work be seen toward thy servants, and thy glory upon their [e]children.
17 And let the [f]beauty of the Lord our God be upon us, and [g]direct thou the work of our hands upon us, even direct the work of our hands.
22 ¶ These words the Lord spake unto all your multitude in the mount of the midst of the fire, the cloud and the darkness, with a great voice, and [a]added no more thereto: and wrote them upon two tables of stone, and delivered them unto me.
23 And when ye heard the voice out of the midst of the darkness, (for the mountain did burn with fire) then ye came to me, all the chief of your tribes, and your Elders:
24 And ye said, Behold, the Lord our God hath showed us his glory and his greatness, and (A)we have heard his voice out of the midst of the fire: we have seen this day that God doth talk with man, and he (B)liveth.
25 Now therefore, why should we die? for this great fire will consume us: if we hear the voice of the Lord our God anymore, we shall die.
26 For what [b]flesh was there ever that heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the midst of the fire as we have, and lived?
27 Go thou near and hear all that the Lord our God saith: and declare thou unto us all that the Lord our God saith unto thee: (C)and we will hear it, and do it.
28 Then the Lord heard the voice of your words, when ye spake unto me: and the Lord said unto me, I have heard the voice of the words of this people, which they have spoken unto thee: they have well said, all that they have spoken.
29 Oh [c]that there were such an heart in them to fear me, and to keep all my commandments always: that it might go well with them, and with their children forever.
30 Go, say unto them, Return you into your tents.
31 But stand thou here with me, and I will tell thee all the commandments, and the ordinances, and the laws, which thou shalt teach them: that they may do them in the land which I give them to possess it.
32 Take heed therefore, that ye do as the Lord your God hath commanded you: [d]turn not aside to the right hand nor to the left.
33 But walk in all the ways which the Lord your God hath commanded you, that ye may [e]live, and that it may go well with you: and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess.
4 1 He joineth exhortation with threatening, lest they, even as their fathers were be deprived of the rest offered unto them, 11 but that they endeavor to enter into it. 14 And so he beginneth to entreat of Christ’s Priesthood.
1 Let us fear therefore, lest at any time by forsaking the promise of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to be deprived.
2 [a]For unto us was the Gospel preached as also unto them: but the word that they heard, profited not them, because it was not [b]mixed with faith in those that heard it.
3 [c]For we which have believed, do enter into rest, as he said to the other, (A)As I have sworn in my wrath, If they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
4 For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, (B)And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.
5 And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.
6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter thereinto, and they to whom it was first preached, entered not therein for unbelief’s sake:
7 Again he appointed in David a certain day, by Today, after so long a time, saying, as it is said, (C)This day, if ye hear his voice, harden not your hearts.
8 For if [d]Jesus had given them rest, then would he not after this have spoken of another day.
9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
10 [e]For he that is entered into his rest, hath also ceased from his own works, as God did from his.
11 [f]Let us study therefore to enter into that rest, lest [g]any man fall after the same example of disobedience.
