Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
17 They acted like fools in their rebellious ways,[a]
and suffered because of their sins.
18 They lost their appetite for all food,[b]
and they drew near the gates of death.
19 They cried out to the Lord in their distress;
he delivered them from their troubles.
20 He sent them an assuring word[c] and healed them;
he rescued them from the pits where they were trapped.[d]
21 Let them give thanks to the Lord for his loyal love,
and for the amazing things he has done for people.[e]
22 Let them present thank offerings,
and loudly proclaim what he has done.[f]
5 I, Daniel, watched as two others stood there, one on each side of the river.[a] 6 One said to the man clothed in linen who was above the waters of the river, “When will the end of these wondrous events occur?” 7 Then I heard the man clothed in linen who was over the waters of the river as he raised both his right and left hands to the sky[b] and made an oath by the one who lives forever: “It is for a time, times, and half a time. Then, when the power of the one who shatters[c] the holy people has been exhausted, all these things will be finished.”
8 I heard, but I did not understand. So I said, “Sir,[d] what will happen after these things?” 9 He said, “Go, Daniel. For these matters are closed and sealed until the time of the end. 10 Many will be purified, made clean, and refined, but the wicked will go on being wicked. None of the wicked will understand, though the wise will understand. 11 From the time that the daily sacrifice is removed and the abomination that causes desolation is set in place,[e] there are 1,290 days. 12 Blessed is the one who waits and attains to the 1,335 days. 13 But you should go your way[f] until the end.[g] You will rest and then at the end of the days you will arise to receive[h] what you have been allotted.”[i]
7 In him[a] we have redemption through his blood,[b] the forgiveness of our offenses,[c] according to the riches of his grace 8 that he lavished on us in all wisdom and insight. 9 He did this when he revealed[d] to us the mystery[e] of his will, according to his good pleasure that he set forth[f] in Christ,[g] 10 toward the administration of the fullness of the times, to head up[h] all things in Christ—the things in heaven[i] and the things on earth.[j] 11 In Christ[k] we too have been claimed as God’s own possession,[l] since we were predestined according to the purpose of him who accomplishes all things according to the counsel of his will 12 so that we, who were the first to set our hope[m] on Christ,[n] would be to the praise of his glory. 13 And when[o] you heard the word of truth (the gospel of your salvation)—when you believed in Christ[p]—you were marked with the seal[q] of the promised Holy Spirit,[r] 14 who is the down payment[s] of our inheritance, until the redemption of God’s own possession,[t] to the praise of his glory.
