Psalm 46[a]

God, the Protector of Zion

For the leader. A song of the Korahites. According to alamoth.[b]

I

God is our refuge and our strength,
    an ever-present help in distress.(A)
[c]Thus we do not fear, though earth be shaken
    and mountains quake to the depths of the sea,
Though its waters rage and foam
    and mountains totter at its surging.(B)
Selah

II

[d]Streams of the river gladden the city of God,
    the holy dwelling of the Most High.(C)
God is in its midst; it shall not be shaken;
    God will help it at break of day.(D)
Though nations rage and kingdoms totter,
    he utters his voice and the earth melts.(E)
[e]The Lord of hosts is with us;
    our stronghold is the God of Jacob.
Selah

III

Come and see the works of the Lord,
    who has done fearsome deeds on earth;(F)
10 Who stops wars to the ends of the earth,
    breaks the bow, splinters the spear,
    and burns the shields with fire;(G)
11 (H)“Be still and know that I am God!
    I am exalted among the nations,
    exalted on the earth.”
12 The Lord of hosts is with us;
    our stronghold is the God of Jacob.
Selah

Genesis 12:1-9

Chapter 12

Abram’s Call and Migration. The Lord said to Abram: Go forth[a] from your land, your relatives, and from your father’s house to a land that I will show you.(A) [b]I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.(B) (C)I will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you. All the families of the earth will find blessing in you.[c]

(D)Abram went as the Lord directed him, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran. [d]Abram took his wife Sarai, his brother’s son Lot, all the possessions that they had accumulated, and the persons they had acquired in Haran, and they set out for the land of Canaan. When they came to the land of Canaan, [e]Abram passed through the land as far as the sacred place at Shechem, by the oak of Moreh. The Canaanites were then in the land.

The Lord appeared to Abram and said: To your descendants I will give this land. So Abram built an altar there to the Lord who had appeared to him.(E) From there he moved on to the hill country east of Bethel, pitching his tent with Bethel to the west and Ai to the east. He built an altar there to the Lord and invoked the Lord by name. Then Abram journeyed on by stages to the Negeb.[f]

1 Corinthians 7:17-24

17 Only, everyone should live as the Lord has assigned, just as God called each one. I give this order in all the churches. 18 Was someone called after he had been circumcised? He should not try to undo his circumcision. Was an uncircumcised person called? He should not be circumcised.(A) 19 Circumcision means nothing, and uncircumcision means nothing; what matters is keeping God’s commandments.(B) 20 Everyone should remain in the state in which he was called.

21 Were you a slave when you were called? Do not be concerned but, even if you can gain your freedom, make the most of it. 22 For the slave called in the Lord is a freed person in the Lord, just as the free person who has been called is a slave of Christ.(C) 23 You have been purchased at a price. Do not become slaves to human beings.(D) 24 Brothers, everyone should continue before God in the state in which he was called.
