Psalm 6

Psalm 6[a]

Evening Prayer for God’s Mercy

For the director.[b] With stringed instruments. “Upon the eighth.” A psalm of David.

Lord, do not rebuke me in your anger
    or punish me in your wrath.
Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I am tottering;
    help me, O Lord, for my body is in agony.[c]
My soul[d] is also filled with anguish.
    But you, O Lord—how long?
Turn, O Lord, and deliver my soul;
    save me because of your kindness.[e]
For among the dead who remembers you?
    In the netherworld who sings your praises?[f]
I am exhausted from my sighing;
    every night I flood my bed with my tears,
    and I soak my couch with my weeping.
My eyes grow dim because of my grief;
    they are worn out[g] because of all my foes.
Depart from me, all you evildoers,[h]
    for the Lord has heard the sound of my weeping.
10 The Lord has listened to my pleas;
    the Lord has accepted my prayer.
11 All my enemies will be shamed and terrified;
    they will flee in utter confusion.[i]

Micah 7:1-7

Chapter 7

More than One Righteous Person among the People

How great is my misery!
    I have become like one who,
when the summer fruit has been gathered
    and the vines have been gleaned,
finds not a single cluster of grapes to eat,
    nor any of those early figs for which I long.
The faithful have vanished from the land;
    there is no honest person to be found.
They all lie in wait to shed blood;
    each one hunts his brother with a net.
Their hands are skilled in performing evil deeds;
    the ruler demands gifts,
the judge asks for a bribe,
    the powerful man follows his own desires.
The best of them is like a briar,
    the most upright like a thorn hedge.
The day of their punishment now approaches;
    now they will be seized by confusion.
Put no trust in a friend:
    have no confidence in a loved one.
Guard the portals of your mouth
    against her who lies in your embrace.
For a son maligns his father,
    a daughter rebels against her mother,
a daughter-in-law rises up against her mother-in-law;
    your enemies are to be found in your own household.
But as for me, I will look to the Lord.
    I place my hope in God my savior;
    my God will hear me.

Revelation 2:1-7

Letters to the Churches[a]

Chapter 2

To Ephesus.[b]“To the angel of the Church in Ephesus,[c] write:

“ ‘These are the words of the one who holds the seven stars in his right hand and who walks in the midst of the seven lampstands:

“ ‘ “I know your deeds, your hard work, and your endurance. I know that you cannot tolerate wicked people, and how you have put to the test those who claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them to be impostors. I am also aware of your perseverance and how you have toiled for my name without becoming weary.

“ ‘ “However, I have this complaint against you: you have lost the love you had at first. Remember from where you have fallen. Repent and do as you did originally. Otherwise, unless you repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place. Nonetheless, this may be said in your favor: you detest the works of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.

“ ‘ “Whoever has ears should listen to what the Spirit says[d] to the Churches. To anyone who is victorious, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life that is in the paradise of God.” ’
