Psalm 8

Psalm 8

For the Music Director. According to The Gittith. A Psalm of David.

O Lord, our Lord,
how excellent is Your name in all the earth!

You have set Your glory
    above the heavens.
Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants
    You have ordained strength
because of Your enemies,
to silence the enemy and the avenger.
When I consider Your heavens,
    the work of Your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
    which You have established,
what is man that You are mindful of him,
and the son of man that You attend to him?

For You have made him a little lower than the angels,
and crowned him with glory and honor.
You have given him dominion over the works of Your hands;
You have put all things under his feet,
all sheep and oxen,
and also the beasts of the field,
the birds of the air,
and the fish of the sea,
and whatever travels the paths of the seas.

O Lord, our Lord,
how excellent is Your name in all the earth!

Job 38:1-11

The Lord Speaks to Job

38 Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind and said:

“Who is this who darkens counsel
    by words without knowledge?
Prepare yourself like a man;
    for I will question you,
    and you shall answer Me.

“Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth?
    Declare, if you have understanding.
Who has determined its measurements, if you know?
Or who has stretched the line upon it?
To what are its foundations fastened?
    Or who laid its cornerstone
when the morning stars sang together,
and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

“Or who shut up the sea with doors
when it broke forth and went out of the womb?
When I made the cloud its garment,
and thick darkness its swaddling band,
10 and broke up for it My decreed place,
    and set bars and doors,
11 and said, ‘This far you will come but no farther,
and here your proud waves will be stopped’?

2 Timothy 1:8-12

So do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me, His prisoner. But share in the sufferings of the gospel by the power of God, who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not by our works, but by His own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, 10 but is now revealed by the appearing of our Savior, Jesus Christ, who has abolished death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel, 11 for which I was appointed a preacher, an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles. 12 For these things I suffer, but I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed to Him until that Day.
