Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
Naaman Is Healed
5 Now (A)Naaman, commander of the army of the king of Aram, was a great man [a]in the view of his master, and eminent, because by him the Lord had given victory to Aram. The man was also a valiant warrior, but afflicted with leprosy. 2 Now the Arameans had gone out (B)in bands and had taken captive a little girl from the land of Israel; and she [b]waited on Naaman’s wife. 3 And she said to her mistress, “If only my master were [c]with the prophet who is in Samaria! Then he would cure him of his leprosy.”
7 But when the king of Israel read the letter, (A)he tore his clothes and said, “(B)Am I God, to kill and to keep alive, that this man is sending word to me to cure a man of his leprosy? But (C)consider now, and see how he is seeking [a]a quarrel against me.”
8 Now it happened, when Elisha (D)the man of God heard that the king of Israel had torn his clothes, that he sent word to the king, saying, “Why did you tear your clothes? Just have him come to me, and he shall learn that there is a prophet in Israel.” 9 So Naaman came with his horses and his chariots, and stood at the doorway of Elisha’s house. 10 And Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, “(E)Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and your flesh will be restored to you and you will be clean.” 11 But Naaman was furious and went away, and he said, “Behold, I [b]thought, ‘He will certainly come out to me, and stand and call on the name of the Lord his God, and wave his hand over the site and cure the [c]leprosy.’ 12 Are [d]Abanah and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, not better than all the waters of Israel? Could I not wash in them and be clean?” So he turned and (F)went away in a rage. 13 (G)Then his servants approached and spoke to him, [e]saying, “(H)My father, had the prophet told you to do some great thing, would you not have done it? How much more then, when he says to you, ‘Wash, and be clean’?” 14 So he went down and dipped himself in the Jordan seven times, in accordance with the word of the man of God; and (I)his flesh was restored like the flesh of a little child, and (J)he was clean.
Gehazi’s Greed
15 Then he returned to the man of God [f]with all his company, and came and stood before him. And he said, “Behold now, (K)I know that there is no God in all the earth, except in Israel; so please (L)accept a [g]gift from your servant now.”
The Lord Praised for His Goodness.
111 [a]Praise [b]the Lord!
I (A)will give thanks to the Lord with all my heart,
In the (B)company of the upright and in the assembly.
2 (C)Great are the works of the Lord;
They are [c](D)studied by all who delight in them.
3 [d](E)Splendid and majestic is His work,
And (F)His righteousness endures forever.
4 He has caused His [e]wonders [f]to be remembered;
The Lord is (G)gracious and compassionate.
5 He has (H)given [g]food to those who [h]fear Him;
He will (I)remember His covenant forever.
6 He has made known to His people the power of His works,
In giving them the inheritance of the nations.
7 The works of His hands are [i](J)truth and justice;
All His precepts (K)are trustworthy.
8 They are (L)upheld forever and ever;
They are performed in [j](M)truth and uprightness.
9 He has sent (N)redemption to His people;
He has [k]ordained His covenant forever;
(O)Holy and [l]awesome is His name.
10 The [m](P)fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;
All those who [n]follow (Q)His commandments have a good understanding;
His (R)praise endures forever.
8 Remember Jesus Christ, (A)risen from the dead, (B)descendant of David, (C)according to my gospel, 9 [a]for which I (D)suffer hardship even to (E)imprisonment as a (F)criminal; but (G)the word of God (H)is not imprisoned. 10 For this reason (I)I endure all things for (J)the sake of [b]those who are chosen, (K)so that they also may obtain the (L)salvation which is in (M)Christ Jesus and with it (N)eternal glory. 11 (O)The statement is trustworthy:
For (P)if we died with Him, we will also live with Him;
12 If we endure, (Q)we will also reign with Him;
If we [c](R)deny Him, He will also deny us;
13 If we are faithless, (S)He remains faithful, for (T)He cannot deny Himself.
An Unashamed Worker
14 Remind them of these things, and solemnly (U)exhort them in the presence of God not to (V)dispute about words, which is useless and leads to the ruin of the listeners. 15 Be diligent to (W)present yourself approved to God as a worker who [d]does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling (X)the word of truth.
Ten Men with Leprosy Healed
11 While He was (A)on the way to Jerusalem, (B)He was passing [a]between Samaria and Galilee. 12 And as He entered a village, ten men with leprosy who (C)stood at a distance met Him; 13 and they raised their voices, saying, “Jesus, (D)Master, have mercy on us!” 14 When He saw them, He said to them, “(E)Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they were going, they were cleansed. 15 Now one of them, when he saw that he had been healed, turned back, (F)glorifying God with a loud voice, 16 and he fell on his face at His feet, giving thanks to Him. And he was a (G)Samaritan. 17 But Jesus responded and said, “Were there not ten cleansed? But the nine—where are they? 18 [b]Was no one found who returned to (H)give glory to God, except this foreigner?” 19 And He said to him, “Stand up and go; (I)your faith has [c]made you well.”
