¹⁵ And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples (the number of names that were together was about a hundred and twenty), and said, ¹⁶ Men and brethren, this scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke before through the mouth of David concerning Judas, who was a guide to those who took Jesus. ¹⁷ For he was numbered with us, and had obtained fellowship in this ministry.

²¹ Therefore, of these men who have been with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, ²² beginning at the baptism of John to the same day that he was taken up from us, one must bear witness with us of his resurrection.

²³ And they proposed two: Joseph called Barsabas, whose surname was Justus, and Matthias. ²⁴ And they prayed, saying, You, Lord, who know the hearts of all men, show which of these two you have chosen, ²⁵ so that one may take the place in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas, by transgression, fell, that he might go to his own place.

²⁶ And they cast their lots, and the lot fell on Matthias, and he was counted with the eleven apostles.

⁹ If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater. For this is the witness of God, which he testified of his Son. ¹⁰ He who believes on the Son of God has the witness in himself.  He who does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed the testimony that God gave of his Son. ¹¹ And this is that testimony: that God has given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. ¹² He who has the Son has life, and he who does not have the Son of God, does not have life.

¹³ These things I have written to you who believe on the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life, and so that you may believe on the name of the Son of God.

⁶ I have declared your name to the men that you gave me out of the world. Yours they were, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your sayings. ⁷ Now they know that all things, whatsoever you have given me, are of you. ⁸ For I have given to them the words that you gave me and they have received them, and know surely that I came out from you, and do believe that you did send me.

⁹ I pray for them – and pray not for the world, but for those whom you have given me. For they are yours. ¹⁰ And all mine are yours, and yours are mine, and I am glorified in them. ¹¹ And now I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I come to you. Holy Father, keep in your own name those whom you have given me so that they may be one, as we are. ¹² While I was with them in the world, I kept them in your name. Those whom you gave me I have kept, and none of them is lost except that lost child, so that the scripture may be fulfilled.

¹³ Now I come to you. And I speak these words in the world so that they may have my joy full in them. ¹⁴ I have given them your words. And the world has hated them, because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. ¹⁵ I ask not that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from evil. ¹⁶ They are not of the world, as I am not of the world. ¹⁷ Sanctify them with your truth. Your word is truth. ¹⁸ As you sent me into the world, so have I sent them into the world. ¹⁹ And for their sakes I sanctify myself, so that they also may be sanctified through the truth.
