Psalm 25:1-10

Psalm 25[a]

By David.

25 O Lord, I come before you in prayer.[b]
My God, I trust in you.
Please do not let me be humiliated;
do not let my enemies triumphantly rejoice over me.
Certainly none who rely on you will be humiliated.
Those who deal in treachery will be thwarted[c] and humiliated.
Make me understand your ways, O Lord.
Teach me your paths.[d]
Guide me into your truth[e] and teach me.
For you are the God who delivers me;
on you I rely all day long.
Remember[f] your compassionate and faithful deeds, O Lord,
for you have always acted in this manner.[g]
Do not hold against me[h] the sins of my youth[i] or my rebellious acts.
Because you are faithful to me, extend to me your favor, O Lord.[j]
The Lord is both kind and fair;[k]
that is why he teaches sinners the right way to live.[l]
May he show[m] the humble what is right.[n]
May he teach[o] the humble his way.
10 The Lord always proves faithful and reliable[p]
to those who follow the demands of his covenant.[q]

Genesis 41:37-49

37 This advice made sense to Pharaoh and all his officials.[a] 38 So Pharaoh asked his officials, “Can we find a man like Joseph,[b] one in whom the Spirit of God is present?”[c] 39 So Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Because God has enabled you to know all this, there is no one as wise and discerning[d] as you are! 40 You will oversee my household, and all my people will submit to your commands.[e] Only I, the king, will be greater than you.[f]

41 “See here,” Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I place[g] you in authority over all the land of Egypt.”[h] 42 Then Pharaoh took his signet ring from his own hand and put it on Joseph’s. He clothed him with fine linen[i] clothes and put a gold chain around his neck. 43 Pharaoh[j] had him ride in the chariot used by his second-in-command,[k] and they cried out before him, “Kneel down!”[l] So he placed him over all the land of Egypt. 44 Pharaoh also said to Joseph, “I am Pharaoh, but without your permission[m] no one[n] will move his hand or his foot[o] in all the land of Egypt.” 45 Pharaoh gave Joseph the name Zaphenath-Paneah.[p] He also gave him Asenath[q] daughter of Potiphera, priest of On,[r] to be his wife. So Joseph took charge of[s] all the land of Egypt.

46 Now Joseph was 30 years old[t] when he began serving[u] Pharaoh king of Egypt. Joseph was commissioned by[v] Pharaoh and was in charge of[w] all the land of Egypt. 47 During the seven years of abundance the land produced large, bountiful harvests.[x] 48 Joseph[y] collected all the excess food[z] in the land of Egypt during the seven years and stored it in the cities.[aa] In every city he put the food gathered from the fields around it. 49 Joseph stored up a vast amount of grain, like the sand of the sea,[ab] until he stopped measuring it because it was impossible to measure.

Acts 7:9-16

The[a] patriarchs, because they were jealous of Joseph, sold[b] him into Egypt. But[c] God was with him, 10 and rescued him from all his troubles, and granted him favor and wisdom in the presence of Pharaoh, king of Egypt, who made[d] him ruler over Egypt and over all his household. 11 Then a famine occurred throughout[e] Egypt and Canaan, causing[f] great suffering, and our[g] ancestors[h] could not find food. 12 So when Jacob heard that there was grain[i] in Egypt, he sent our ancestors[j] there[k] the first time. 13 On their second visit Joseph made himself known to his brothers again, and Joseph’s family[l] became known to Pharaoh. 14 So Joseph sent a message[m] and invited[n] his father Jacob and all his relatives to come, seventy-five people[o] in all. 15 So Jacob went down to Egypt and died there,[p] along with our ancestors,[q] 16 and their bones[r] were later moved to Shechem and placed in the tomb that Abraham had bought for a certain sum of money[s] from the sons of Hamor in Shechem.
