Isaiah 11:1-9

Righteous Reign of the Branch

11 Then a (A)shoot will spring from the (B)stem of Jesse,
And a (C)Branch from (D)his roots will bear fruit.
The (E)Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him,
The spirit of (F)wisdom and understanding,
The spirit of counsel and (G)strength,
The spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.
And He will delight in the fear of the Lord,
And He will not judge by what His eyes (H)see,
Nor make decisions by what His ears hear;
But with (I)righteousness He will judge the (J)poor,
And decide with fairness for the (K)humble of the earth;
And He will strike the earth with the (L)rod of His mouth,
And with the (M)breath of His lips He will slay the wicked.
Also (N)righteousness will be the belt around His hips,
And (O)faithfulness the belt around His waist.

And the (P)wolf will dwell with the lamb,
And the leopard will lie down with the young goat,
And the calf and the young lion [a]and the fattened steer will be together;
And a little boy will lead them.
Also the cow and the bear will graze,
Their young will lie down together,
And the (Q)lion will eat straw like the ox.
The nursing child will play by the hole of the cobra,
And the weaned child will put his hand on the viper’s den.
They will (R)not hurt or destroy in all My holy mountain,
For the (S)earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord
As the waters cover the sea.

Numbers 16:20-35

20 Then the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying, 21 (A)Separate yourselves from among this congregation, (B)so that I may consume them instantly.” 22 But they fell on their faces and said, “God, (C)the God of the spirits of [a]humanity, (D)when one person sins, will You be angry with the entire congregation?”

23 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 24 “Speak to the congregation, saying, ‘(E)Get away from the areas around the [b]tents of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.’”

25 Then Moses arose and went to Dathan and Abiram, with the elders of Israel following him, 26 and he spoke to the congregation, saying, “(F)Get away now from the tents of these wicked men, and do not touch anything that belongs to them, (G)or you will be swept away in all their sin!” 27 So they moved away from the areas around the [c]tents of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram; and Dathan and Abiram came out and stood at the entrances of their tents, along with their wives, (H)their sons, and their little ones. 28 Then Moses said, “By this you shall know that (I)the Lord has sent me to do all these deeds; for it is not [d]my doing. 29 If these men die [e]the death of all mankind, or [f]if they suffer the (J)fate of all mankind, then the Lord has not sent me. 30 But (K)if the Lord [g]brings about an entirely new thing and the ground opens its mouth and swallows them with everything that is theirs, and they (L)descend alive into [h]Sheol, then you will know that these men have been disrespectful to the Lord.”

31 And as he finished speaking all these words, the ground that was under them split open; 32 and (M)the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them, their households, and (N)all the people who belonged to Korah with all their possessions. 33 So they and all that belonged to them went down alive to [i]Sheol; and the earth closed over them, and they perished from the midst of the assembly. 34 Then all Israel who were around them fled at their [j]outcry, for they said, “The earth might swallow us!” 35 (O)Fire also came out from the Lord and consumed the (P)250 men who were offering the incense.

Acts 28:23-31

23 When they had set a day for [a]Paul, people came to him at (A)his lodging in large numbers; and he was explaining to them by solemnly (B)testifying about the kingdom of God and trying to persuade them concerning Jesus, (C)from both the Law of Moses and from the Prophets, from morning until evening. 24 (D)Some were being persuaded by the things said by Paul, but others would not believe. 25 And when they disagreed with one another, they began leaving after Paul said one parting statement: “The Holy Spirit rightly spoke through Isaiah the prophet to your fathers, 26 saying,

(E)Go to this people and say,
[b](F)You will keep on hearing, and will not understand;
And [c]you will keep on seeing, and will not perceive;
27 (G)For the hearts of this people have become [d]insensitive,
And with their ears they [e]hardly hear,
And they have closed their eyes;
Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
And hear with their ears,
And understand with their heart and return,
And I would heal them.”’

28 Therefore, let it be known to you that (H)this salvation of God has been sent (I)to the Gentiles; they will also listen.”[f]

30 Now Paul stayed two full years [g]in his own rented lodging and welcomed all who came to him, 31 [h](J)preaching the kingdom of God and teaching things about the Lord Jesus Christ (K)with all openness, unhindered.
