Version
Psalm 90:12-17

12 (A)So teach us to number our days
    that we may get a heart of wisdom.
13 (B)Return, O Lord! (C)How long?
    Have (D)pity on your servants!
14 Satisfy us in the (E)morning with your steadfast love,
    that we may (F)rejoice and be glad all our days.
15 Make us glad for as many days as you have (G)afflicted us,
    and for as many years as we have seen evil.
16 Let your (H)work be shown to your servants,
    and your glorious power to their children.
17 Let the (I)favor[a] of the Lord our God be upon us,
    and establish (J)the work of our hands upon us;
    yes, establish the work of our hands!

Amos 3:13-4:5

13 “Hear, (A)and testify against the house of Jacob,”
    declares the Lord God, (B)the God of hosts,
14 “that on the day I punish Israel for his transgressions,
    (C)I will punish the altars of Bethel,
and (D)the horns of the altar shall be cut off
    and fall to the ground.
15 (E)I will strike (F)the winter house along with (G)the summer house,
    and (H)the houses of ivory shall perish,
and the great houses[a] shall come to an end,”
declares the Lord.

“Hear this word, (I)you cows of Bashan,
    who are (J)on the mountain of Samaria,
(K)who oppress the poor, (L)who crush the needy,
    who say to your husbands, ‘Bring, that we may drink!’
(M)The Lord God has sworn by his holiness
    that, behold, the days are coming upon you,
(N)when they shall take you away with hooks,
    (O)even the last of you with fishhooks.
(P)And you shall go out through the breaches,
    each one straight ahead;
    and you shall be cast out into Harmon,”
declares the Lord.

(Q)“Come to Bethel, and transgress;
    to (R)Gilgal, and multiply transgression;
(S)bring your (T)sacrifices every morning,
    your tithes every three days;
offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving of (U)that which is leavened,
    and proclaim (V)freewill offerings, publish them;
    (W)for so you love to do, O people of Israel!”
declares the Lord God.

Matthew 15:1-9

Traditions and Commandments

15 (A)Then Pharisees and (B)scribes came to Jesus (C)from Jerusalem and said, (D)“Why do your disciples break (E)the tradition of the elders? (F)For they do not wash their hands when they eat.” He answered them, “And why do you break the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition? For God commanded, (G)‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and, (H)‘Whoever reviles father or mother must surely die.’ But you say, ‘If anyone tells his father or his mother, “What you would have gained from me is given to God,”[a] he need not honor his father.’ So for the sake of your tradition you have (I)made void the word[b] of God. (J)You hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy of you, when he said:

(K)“‘This people honors me with their lips,
    but their heart is far from me;
in vain do they worship me,
    teaching as (L)doctrines the commandments of men.’”
