The Way of the Righteous and the Wicked

Blessed is the man[a]
who (A)walks not in (B)the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in (C)the way of sinners,
    nor (D)sits in (E)the seat of (F)scoffers;
but his (G)delight is in the law[b] of the Lord,
and on his (H)law he meditates day and night.

He is like (I)a tree
    planted by (J)streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
and its (K)leaf does not wither.
(L)In all that he does, he prospers.
The wicked are not so,
but are like (M)chaff that the wind drives away.

Therefore the wicked (N)will not stand in the judgment,
    nor sinners in (O)the congregation of the righteous;
for the Lord (P)knows (Q)the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.

Jeremiah 13:20-27

20 “Lift up your eyes (A)and see
those who come from the north.
Where is the flock that was given you,
    your beautiful flock?
21 What will you say when they set as head over you
those whom you yourself have taught to be friends to you?
(B)Will not pangs take hold of you
like those of a woman in labor?
22 And if you say in your heart,
(C)‘Why have these things come upon me?’
it is for the greatness of your iniquity
that (D)your skirts are lifted up
    and you suffer violence.
23 (E)Can the Ethiopian change his skin
    or (F)the leopard his spots?
Then also you can do good
who are accustomed to do evil.
24 I will scatter you[a] (G)like chaff
driven by the wind from the desert.
25 (H)This is your lot,
the portion I have measured out to you, declares the Lord,
because (I)you have forgotten me
    and trusted in lies.
26 (J)I myself will lift up your skirts over your face,
and your shame will be seen.
27 I have seen (K)your abominations,
your adulteries and (L)neighings, your lewd whorings,
(M)on the hills in the field.
Woe to you, O Jerusalem!
How long will it be (N)before you are made clean?”

1 Peter 1:17-2:1

17 And if you (A)call on him as Father who (B)judges (C)impartially according to each one's deeds, conduct yourselves (D)with fear throughout the time of your exile, 18 knowing that you (E)were ransomed from (F)the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, 19 but (G)with the precious blood of Christ, like that of (H)a lamb (I)without blemish or spot. 20 He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but (J)was made manifest (K)in the last times for the sake of you 21 (L)who through him are believers in God, (M)who raised him from the dead and (N)gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.

22 Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for (O)a sincere brotherly love, (P)love one another earnestly from a pure heart, 23 (Q)since you have been born again, (R)not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through (S)the living and abiding word of God; 24 for

(T)“All flesh is like grass
and all its glory like the flower of grass.
The grass withers,
    and the flower falls,
25 (U)but the word of the Lord remains forever.”

And this word (V)is the good news that was preached to you.

A Living Stone and a Holy People

(W)So put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander.
