Leviticus 19:1-2

Yahweh Is Holy

19 Then[a] Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to all the community of the Israelites,[b] and say to them, ‘You[c] must be holy, because I, Yahweh your[d] God, am holy.

Leviticus 19:9-18

Love Your Neighbor as Yourself

“‘And at your[a] reaping the harvest of your[b] land you[c] must not finish reaping the edge of your[d] field, and you[e] must not glean the remnants of your[f] harvest. 10 And you[g] must not glean your[h] vineyard, and you[i] must not gather your[j] vineyard’s fallen grapes; you[k] must leave them behind for the needy and for the alien; I am Yahweh your[l] God.

11 “‘You[m] shall not steal, and you[n] shall not deceive, and you[o] shall not lie to one another;[p] 12 and you[q] shall not swear falsely[r] in my name, and so one of you[s] profane[t] the name of your[u] God; I am Yahweh.

13 “‘You[v] shall not exploit your[w] neighbor, and you[x] shall not rob him; a hired worker’s wage you[y] shall not withhold[z] overnight until morning. 14 You[aa] shall not curse the deaf, and you[ab] shall not put a stumbling block before[ac] a blind person, but[ad] you[ae] shall revere your[af] God; I am Yahweh.

15 “‘You[ag] shall not do injustice in judgment; you[ah] shall not show partiality to the powerless;[ai] you[aj] shall not give preference to the powerful;[ak] you[al] shall judge your[am] fellow citizen with justice. 16 You[an] shall not go about with slander among your[ao] people; you[ap] shall not endanger your[aq] neighbor’s life;[ar] I am Yahweh.

17 “‘You[as] shall not hate your[at] brother in your[au] heart; you[av] shall surely rebuke your[aw] fellow citizen, so that you[ax] do not incur sin along with[ay] him. 18 You[az] shall not seek vengeance, and you[ba] shall not harbor a grudge against your[bb] fellow citizens;[bc] and you[bd] shall love your[be] neighbor like yourself; [bf] I am Yahweh.

Psalm 119:33-40

Heʼ

33 Teach me, O Yahweh, the way of your statutes,
and I will keep it to the end.
34 Give me understanding, that I may keep your law
and heed it with my whole heart.
35 Cause me to walk in the path of your commands,
for I delight in it.
36 Incline my heart to your testimonies,
and not to dishonest gain.
37 Turn away my eyes from looking at what is worthless;
revive me in your ways.
38 Fulfill your word[a] to your servant,
which is to bring about a reverence for you.
39 Turn away my disgrace that I dread,
for your ordinances are good.
40 Look, I have longed for your precepts;
revive me in your righteousness.

1 Corinthians 3:10-11

10 According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and another is building upon it. But each one must direct his attention to how he is building upon it. 11 For no one is able to lay another foundation than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 3:16-23

16 Do you not know that you are God’s temple and the Spirit of God dwells in you? 17 If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy this one. For God’s temple is holy, which you are.

18 Let no one deceive himself. If anyone thinks himself to be wise among you in this age, let him become a fool, in order that he may become wise. 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God, for it is written, “The one who catches the wise in their craftiness,”[a] 20 and again, “The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile.”[b] 21 So then, let no one boast in people. For all things are yours, 22 whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or things present or things to come, all things are yours, 23 and you are Christ’s, and Christ is God’s.

Matthew 5:38-48

The Sermon on the Mount: Retaliation

38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’[a] 39 But I say to you, do not resist the evildoer, but whoever strikes you on the right cheek,[b] turn the other to him also. 40 And the one who wants to go to court with you and take your tunic, let him have[c] your outer garment also. 41 And whoever forces you to go one mile,[d] go with him two. 42 Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.

The Sermon on the Mount: Love for Enemies

43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor’[e] and ‘Hate your enemy.’[f] 44 But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 in order that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven, because he causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust. 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not the tax collectors also do the same? 47 And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing that is remarkable? Do not the Gentiles also do the same? 48 Therefore you be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect.
