Psalm 119:33-40

He

33 (A)Teach me, O Lord, the way of your statutes;
    and I will keep it (B)to the end.[a]
34 (C)Give me understanding, that I may keep your law
    and observe it with my whole heart.
35 (D)Lead me in the path of your commandments,
    for I (E)delight in it.
36 (F)Incline my heart to your testimonies,
    and not to (G)selfish gain!
37 (H)Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things;
    and (I)give me life in your ways.
38 (J)Confirm to your servant your promise,
    (K)that you may be feared.
39 Turn away the (L)reproach that I dread,
    for your rules are good.
40 Behold, I (M)long for your precepts;
    (N)in your righteousness give me life!

Leviticus 24:10-23

Punishment for Blasphemy

10 Now an Israelite woman's son, whose father was an Egyptian, went out among the people of Israel. And the Israelite woman's son and a man of Israel fought in the camp, 11 and the Israelite woman's son (A)blasphemed the (B)Name, and cursed. Then they (C)brought him to Moses. His mother's name was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan. 12 And (D)they put him in custody, (E)till the will of the Lord should be clear to them.

13 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 14 (F)“Bring out of the camp the one who cursed, and let all who heard him (G)lay their hands on his head, and let all the congregation stone him. 15 And speak to the people of Israel, saying, Whoever curses his God shall (H)bear his sin. 16 Whoever (I)blasphemes the name of the Lord shall surely be put to death. All the congregation shall stone him. The sojourner as well as the native, when he blasphemes the Name, shall be put to death.

An Eye for an Eye

17 (J)“Whoever takes a human life shall surely be put to death. 18 (K)Whoever takes an animal's life shall make it good, life for life. 19 If anyone injures his neighbor, (L)as he has done it shall be done to him, 20 fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth; whatever injury he has given a person shall be given to him. 21 (M)Whoever kills an animal shall make it good, (N)and whoever kills a person shall be put to death. 22 You shall have the (O)same rule for the sojourner and for the native, for I am the Lord your God.” 23 So Moses spoke to the people of Israel, and (P)they brought out of the camp the one who had cursed and stoned him with stones. Thus the people of Israel did as the Lord commanded Moses.

Matthew 7:1-12

Judging Others

(A)“Judge not, that you be not judged. (B)For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and (C)with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but (D)do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye.

(E)“Do not give (F)dogs what is holy, and do not throw your (G)pearls before pigs, lest they trample them underfoot and turn to attack you.

Ask, and It Will Be Given

(H)“Ask, (I)and it will be given to you; (J)seek, and you will find; (K)knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. Or which one of you, if his son asks him for (L)bread, will give him (M)a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? 11 If you then, (N)who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will (O)your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!

The Golden Rule

12 “So (P)whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is (Q)the Law and the Prophets.
