Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
A Calm Resolve to Wait for the Salvation of God
To the Chief Musician. To (A)Jeduthun. A Psalm of David.
62 Truly (B)my soul silently waits for God;
From Him comes my salvation.
2 He only is my rock and my salvation;
He is my [a]defense;
I shall not be greatly (C)moved.[b]
3 How long will you attack a man?
You shall be slain, all of you,
(D)Like a leaning wall and a tottering fence.
4 They only consult to cast him down from his high position;
They (E)delight in lies;
They bless with their mouth,
But they curse inwardly. Selah
5 My soul, wait silently for God alone,
For my [c]expectation is from Him.
6 He only is my rock and my salvation;
He is my defense;
I shall not be [d]moved.
7 (F)In God is my salvation and my glory;
The rock of my strength,
And my refuge, is in God.
8 Trust in Him at all times, you people;
(G)Pour out your heart before Him;
God is a refuge for us. Selah
2 “The(A) Lord also brings a [a]charge against Judah,
And will punish Jacob according to his ways;
According to his deeds He will recompense him.
3 He took his brother (B)by the heel in the womb,
And in his strength he (C)struggled with God.
4 Yes, he struggled with the Angel and prevailed;
He wept, and sought favor from Him.
He found Him in (D)Bethel,
And there He spoke to us—
5 That is, the Lord God of hosts.
The Lord is His (E)memorable name.
6 (F)So you, by the help of your God, return;
Observe mercy and justice,
And wait on your God continually.
7 “A cunning [b]Canaanite!
(G)Deceitful scales are in his hand;
He loves to oppress.
8 And Ephraim said,
(H)‘Surely I have become rich,
I have found wealth for myself;
In all my labors
They shall find in me no iniquity that is sin.’
9 “But I am the Lord your God,
Ever since the land of Egypt;
(I)I will again make you dwell in tents,
As in the days of the appointed feast.
10 (J)I have also spoken by the prophets,
And have multiplied visions;
I have given [c]symbols [d]through the witness of the prophets.”
11 Though (K)Gilead has idols—
Surely they are [e]vanity—
Though they sacrifice bulls in (L)Gilgal,
Indeed their altars shall be heaps in the furrows of the field.
12 Jacob (M)fled to the country of Syria;
(N)Israel served for a spouse,
And for a wife he tended sheep.
13 (O)By a prophet the Lord brought Israel out of Egypt,
And by a prophet he was preserved.
14 Ephraim (P)provoked Him to anger most bitterly;
Therefore his Lord will leave the guilt of his bloodshed upon him,
(Q)And return his reproach upon him.
Jesus Counsels the Rich Young Ruler(A)
16 (B)Now behold, one came and said to Him, (C)“Good[a] Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?”
17 So He said to him, [b]“Why do you call Me good? [c]No one is (D)good but One, that is, God. But if you want to enter into life, (E)keep the commandments.”
18 He said to Him, “Which ones?”
Jesus said, (F)“‘You shall not murder,’ ‘You shall not commit adultery,’ ‘You shall not steal,’ ‘You shall not bear false witness,’ 19 (G)‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and, (H)‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ ”
20 The young man said to Him, “All these things I have (I)kept [d]from my youth. What do I still lack?”
21 Jesus said to him, “If you want to be perfect, (J)go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”
22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.
