Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
Aleph[a]
119 Blessed are those whose way is blameless,
who walk in the law of Yahweh.
2 Blessed are those who keep his testimonies;
they seek him with a whole heart.
3 They also do no wrong;
they walk in his ways.
4 You have commanded[b] your precepts,
that we should keep them diligently.
5 Oh that my ways were steadfast,
to keep your statutes!
6 Then I would not be ashamed
when I look to all your commands.
7 I will give you thanks with an upright heart,
when I learn your righteous laws.
8 I will heed your statutes;
do not utterly forsake me.
32 “‘Before[a] old age you[b] shall get up, and you[c] shall show respect for an old person; and you[d] shall revere your God; I am Yahweh.
33 “‘And when an alien dwells with you[e] in your[f] land, you[g] shall not oppress him. 34 The alien who is dwelling with you[h] shall be like a native among you,[i] and you[j] shall love him like yourself, [k] because you[l] were aliens in the land of Egypt; I am Yahweh your[m] God.
35 “‘You[n] shall not commit injustice in regulation, in measurement, in weight, or[o] volume. 36 You[p] must have honest balances, honest weights, an honest ephah, and an honest hin; I am Yahweh your[q] God who brought you[r] out from the land of Egypt.
37 “‘Thus you[s] shall keep all my statutes and all my regulations, and you[t] shall do them; I am Yahweh.’”
Righteousness through Faith Revealed
21 But now, apart from the law, the righteousness of God has been revealed, being testified about by the law and the prophets— 22 that is, the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ[a] to all who believe. For there is no distinction, 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 being justified as a gift by his grace, through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God made publicly available as the mercy seat[b] through faith in his blood, for a demonstration of his righteousness, because of the passing over of previously committed sins, 26 in the forbearance of God, for the demonstration of his righteousness in the present time, so that he should be just and the one who justifies the person by faith[c] in Jesus.
27 Therefore, where is boasting? It has been excluded. By what kind of law? Of works? No, but by a law[d] of faith. 28 For we consider a person to be justified by faith apart from the works of the law. 29 Or is God the God of the Jews only? Is he not also the God of the Gentiles? Yes, also of the Gentiles, 30 since God is one, who will justify those who are circumcised[e] by faith and those who are uncircumcised[f] through faith. 31 Therefore, do we nullify the law through faith? May it never be! But we uphold the law.
