Lexham English Bible (LEB)
Version
Isaiah 53:4-12

However, he was the one who lifted up our sicknesses,
    and he carried our pain,
yet[a] we ourselves assumed him stricken,
    struck down by God and afflicted.
But[b] he was pierced[c] because of our transgressions,
    crushed because of our iniquities;
the chastisement for[d] our peace[e] was upon him,
    and by his wounds[f] we were healed.[g]
All of us have wandered about like sheep;
    we each have turned to his own way;
and Yahweh let fall on him
    the iniquity of us all.
He was oppressed and afflicted,
    yet[h] he did not open his mouth;
he was brought like a lamb to the slaughter,
    and like a sheep is dumb before its shearers,
so[i] he did not open his mouth.
He was taken by restraint of justice,
    and who concerned himself with his generation?
For he was cut off from the land of the living;
    he received a blow because of the transgression of my people.
He made[j] his grave with the wicked,
    and with the rich in his death,
although he had done no violence,
    and there was no deceit in his mouth.
10 Yet[k] Yahweh was pleased to crush him;
    he made him sick.[l]
If she[m] places[n] his life a guilt offering,[o]
    he will see offspring.
He will prolong days,
    and the will of Yahweh will succeed in his hand.
11 From the trouble of his life[p] he will see;[q]
    he will be satisfied.
In his knowledge, the righteous one, my servant, shall declare many righteous,[r]
    and he is the one who will bear their iniquities.
12 Therefore, I will divide to him a portion among the many,[s]
    and with the strong ones he will divide bounty,
because[t] he poured his life out to death
    and was counted with the transgressors;
and[u] he was the one who bore the sin of many
    and will intercede for the transgressors.

Psalm 91:9-16

For you, O Yahweh, are my refuge.
You have made the Most High your dwelling place.[a]
10 No harm will befall you,
and no plague will come near your tent.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you,
to watch over you in all your ways.
12 In their hands they will bear you up,
lest you strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread on lion and viper;
you will trample young lion and serpent.
14 Because he loves me, therefore I will deliver him;
I will protect[b] him because he knows my name.
15 He will call upon me and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble;
I will rescue and honor him.
16 With long life[c] I will satisfy him,
and show him my salvation.

Hebrews 5:1-10

A High Priest Like Melchizedek

For every high priest taken from among men is appointed on behalf of people in the things relating to God, in order that he can offer both gifts and sacrifices on behalf of sins, being able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and led astray, since he himself also is surrounded by weakness, and because of it he is obligated to offer sacrifices for sins for himself also, as well as for the people[a]. And someone does not take for himself the honor, but is called by God, just as Aaron also was. Thus also Christ did not glorify himself to become high priest, but the one who said to him,

“You are my Son, today I have begotten you,”[b]

just as also in another place he says,

“You are a priest forever[c] according to the order of Melchizedek,”[d]

who in the days of his flesh offered up both prayers and supplications, with loud crying and tears, to the one who was able to save him from death, and he was heard as a result of his reverence. Although he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered, and being perfected, he became the source of eternal salvation to all those who obey him, 10 being designated by God a high priest according to the order of Melchizedek.

Mark 10:35-45

A Request by James and John

35 And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came up to him and[a] said to him, “Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask you.” 36 And he said to them, “What do you want that I do[b] for you?” 37 So they said to him, “Grant to us that we may sit one at your right hand and one at your left in your glory.” 38 But Jesus said to them, “You do not know what you are asking! Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?” 39 And they said to him, “We are able.” So Jesus said to them, “You will drink the cup that I drink, and you will be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with, 40 but to sit at my right hand or at my left is not mine to grant, but is for those for whom it has been prepared.” 41 And when they[c] heard this,[d] the ten began to be indignant about James and John. 42 And Jesus called them to himself and[e] said to them, “You know that those who are considered to rule over the Gentiles lord it over them, and their people in high positions exercise authority over them. 43 But it is not like this among you! But whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 44 and whoever wants to be most prominent among you must be the slave of all. 45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
