Psalm 22:23-31

23 [a]I will proclaim your name to my family;
    in the midst of the assembly I will praise you:[b]
24 “You who fear the Lord, praise him.
    All you descendants of Jacob,[c] give him glory.
    Revere him, all you descendants of Israel.
25 For he has not scorned or disregarded
    the wretched man in his suffering;
he has not hidden his face[d] from him
    but has heeded his call for help.”
26 I will offer my praise to you in the great assembly;
    in the presence of those who fear him, I will fulfill my vows.[e]
27 [f]The poor[g] will eat and be filled;
    those who seek the Lord will praise him:
    “May your hearts live forever.”
28 All the ends of the earth
    will remember and turn to the Lord.
All the families of the nations
    will bow low before him.
29 For kingly power belongs to the Lord;
    he is the ruler of all the nations.
30 All those who prosper on the earth will bow down before him;
    all those who lie in the grave will kneel in homage.
31 [h]But I will live for the Lord,
    and my descendants will serve him.

Genesis 15:1-6

Chapter 15

The Covenant Guarantee of the Promise.[a] Some time later the Lord communicated these words to Abram in a vision,

“Do not fear, Abram.
    I am your shield;
    your reward shall be very great.”

Abram answered, “My Lord God, what will you give me? I will pass away without children and my heir will be Eliezer of Damascus.” Abram continued, “Behold, you have not given me descendants, and my servant will be my heir.”

Then the word of the Lord came unto him, “He will not be your heir; your own child will be your heir.” Then he led him outside and told him, “Look into the heavens and count the stars, if you can count them. Such,” he continued, “will your descendants be.”

Abraham believed the Lord, who credited it to him as righteousness.[b]

Genesis 15:12-18

12 As the sun was setting, a trance fell upon Abram, and a fearful darkness descended upon him. 13 The Lord said to Abram, “Know that your descendants shall be foreigners in a land that is not their own. They shall be made slaves and oppressed for four hundred years. 14 But I will execute my judgment upon the nation that they will have served. They will leave it with great riches. 15 As for you, you will go in peace to your fathers, and you will be buried at a happy old age. 16 In the fourth generation they will return here, for the iniquity of the Amorites has not yet come to full measure.”

17 When the sun set, it was dark, and a smoking brazier and a flaming torch passed between the carcasses of the animals that had been split in two.[a] 18 On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, “To your descendants I will give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates,

Romans 3:21-31

The Redemption in Jesus Christ[a]

21 God’s Righteousness through Faith in Jesus Christ.[b] But now the righteousness of God that is attested by the Law and the Prophets has been manifested apart from law: 22 the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. No distinction has been made. 23 For all have sinned and thereby are deprived of the glory of God, 24 and all are justified by the gift of his grace that is given freely through the redemption in Christ Jesus.

25 God designated him to be a sacrifice of expiation of sin through faith by the shedding of his blood because in his divine forbearance he allowed to be unpunished the sins previously committed. 26 He thus demonstrated his righteousness in the present time so that he might show himself to be just as the one who justifies anyone who has faith in Jesus.

27 Justification through Faith Apart from the Works of the Law. What reason then does one have to boast? It is excluded! By works of the Law? No, rather by the law of faith. 28 For we maintain that one is justified by faith apart from the works of the Law.

29 Is God the God only of the Jews? Is he not also the God of the Gentiles? Yes, he is the God of the Gentiles too, 30 since there is only one God, and he will justify both the circumcised and the uncircumcised on the basis of their faith. 31 Are we thereby nullifying the Law by this faith? By no means! On the contrary, we are upholding the Law.
