Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
Yahweh Is My Rock and My Fortress
For the choir director. Of the servant of Yahweh, of David, [a]who spoke to Yahweh the words of this song in the day that Yahweh delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul.
18 He said, “I love You, O Yahweh, (A)my strength.”
2 Yahweh is (B)my [b]rock and (C)my fortress and my (D)deliverer,
My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge;
My (E)shield and the (F)horn of my salvation, my (G)stronghold.
3 I call upon Yahweh, who is (H)worthy to be praised,
And I am (I)saved from my enemies.
20 Yahweh has (A)rewarded me according to my righteousness;
According to the (B)cleanness of my hands He has recompensed me.
21 For I have (C)kept the ways of Yahweh,
And have (D)not wickedly departed from my God.
22 For all (E)His judgments were before me,
And I did not put away His (F)statutes from me.
23 I was also [a](G)blameless with Him,
And I (H)kept myself from my iniquity.
24 Therefore Yahweh has (I)recompensed me according to my righteousness,
According to the cleanness of my hands before His eyes.
25 With (J)the [b]kind You show Yourself kind;
With the blameless (K)You show Yourself blameless;
26 With the pure You show Yourself (L)pure,
And with the crooked (M)You show Yourself [c]astute.
27 For You (N)save an afflicted people,
But (O)eyes which are lifted up, You bring down.
28 For You (P)light my lamp;
Yahweh my God (Q)illumines my darkness.
29 For by You I can [d](R)run upon a troop;
And by my God I can (S)leap over a wall.
28 “(A)For they are a nation where counsel perishes,
And there is no discernment in them.
29 (B)Would that they were wise, that they had insight into this,
(C)That they would understand their [a]future!
30 (D)How could one pursue one thousand,
And two put ten thousand to flight,
Unless their (E)Rock had sold them,
And Yahweh had handed them over?
31 Indeed their rock is not like our Rock,
(F)Even our enemies [b]themselves judge this.
32 For their vine is from the vine of Sodom,
And from the fields of Gomorrah;
Their grapes are grapes of (G)poison,
Their clusters, bitter.
33 Their wine is the venom of [c]serpents,
And the [d]deadly poison of cobras.
34 ‘(H)Is it not laid up in store with Me,
Sealed up in My treasuries?
35 (I)Vengeance is Mine, and retribution,
(J)In due time their foot will stumble;
(K)For the day of their disaster is near,
And the impending things are hastening upon them.’
36 (L)For Yahweh will render justice to His people,
(M)And will have compassion on His slaves,
When He sees that their [e]strength is gone,
And there is none remaining, bond or free.
37 And He will say, ‘(N)Where are their gods,
The rock in which they sought refuge?
38 (O)Who ate the fat of their sacrifices,
And drank the wine of their drink offering?
(P)Let them rise up and help you,
Let them be your hiding place!
39 (Q)See now that I, I am He,
(R)And there is no god besides Me;
(S)It is I who put to death and give life.
(T)I have wounded, and it is I who heal,
(U)And there is no one who can deliver from My hand.
33 Oh, the depth of (A)the riches and (B)wisdom and knowledge of God! (C)How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways! 34 For (D)who has known the mind of the Lord, or who became His counselor? 35 Or (E)who has first given to Him [a]that it might be repaid to him? 36 For (F)from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. (G)To Him be the glory [b]forever. Amen.
