Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
Psalm 16
Confidence in the Lord
A Davidic Miktam.(A)
1 Protect me, God, for I take refuge in You.(B)
2 I[a] said to Yahweh, “You are my Lord;
I have nothing good besides You.”[b](C)
3 As for the holy people who are in the land,(D)
they are the noble ones.
All my delight is in them.
4 The sorrows of those who take another god
for themselves will multiply;
I will not pour out their drink offerings of blood,
and I will not speak their names with my lips.(E)
5 Lord, You are my portion[c]
and my cup of blessing;
You hold my future.(F)
6 The boundary lines have fallen for me
in pleasant places;
indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance.(G)
6 Set me as a seal on your heart,
as a seal on your arm.(A)
For love is as strong as death;(B)
ardent love is as unrelenting as Sheol.
Love’s flames are fiery flames(C)—
the fiercest of all.[a]
7 Mighty waters cannot extinguish love;
rivers cannot sweep it away.
If a man were to give all his wealth[b] for love,(D)
it would be utterly scorned.
Mary Magdalene Sees the Risen Lord
11 But(A) Mary stood outside facing the tomb,(B) crying. As she was crying, she stooped to look into the tomb. 12 She saw two angels(C) in white sitting there, one at the head and one at the feet, where Jesus’ body(D) had been lying. 13 They said to her, “Woman, why are you crying?”
“Because they’ve taken away my Lord,”(E) she told them, “and I don’t know where they’ve put Him.” 14 Having said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, though she did not know it was Jesus.(F)
15 “Woman,” Jesus said to her, “why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?”
Supposing He was the gardener, she replied, “Sir, if you’ve removed Him, tell me where you’ve put Him, and I will take Him away.”
16 Jesus said, “Mary.”
Turning around, she said to Him in Hebrew, “Rabbouni!”[a]—which means “Teacher.”(G)
17 “Don’t cling to Me,” Jesus told her, “for I have not yet ascended(H) to the Father.(I) But go to My brothers(J) and tell them that I am ascending to My Father(K) and your Father—to My God(L) and your God.”
18 Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord!”(M) And she told them what[b] He had said to her.
The Disciples Commissioned
19 In the evening of that first day of the week,(N) the disciples were gathered together with the doors locked because of their fear of the Jews. Then Jesus came, stood among them, and said to them, “Peace to you!”(O)
20 Having said this, He showed them His hands and His side.(P) So the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.
