Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
The King of Glory and His Kingdom
A Psalm of David.
24 The (A)earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness,
The world and those who dwell therein.
2 For He has (B)founded it upon the seas,
And established it upon the [a]waters.
3 (C)Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord?
Or who may stand in His holy place?
4 He who has (D)clean hands and (E)a pure heart,
Who has not lifted up his soul to an idol,
Nor (F)sworn deceitfully.
5 He shall receive blessing from the Lord,
And righteousness from the God of his salvation.
6 This is Jacob, the generation of those who (G)seek Him,
Who seek Your face. Selah
7 (H)Lift up your heads, O you gates!
And be lifted up, you everlasting doors!
(I)And the King of glory shall come in.
8 Who is this King of glory?
The Lord strong and mighty,
The Lord mighty in (J)battle.
9 Lift up your heads, O you gates!
Lift up, you everlasting doors!
And the King of glory shall come in.
10 Who is this King of glory?
The Lord of hosts,
He is the King of glory. Selah
8 “Who are these who fly like a cloud,
And like doves to their roosts?
9 (A)Surely the coastlands shall wait for Me;
And the ships of Tarshish will come first,
(B)To bring your sons from afar,
(C)Their silver and their gold with them,
To the name of the Lord your God,
And to the Holy One of Israel,
(D)Because He has glorified you.
10 “The(E) sons of foreigners shall build up your walls,
(F)And their kings shall minister to you;
For (G)in My wrath I struck you,
(H)But in My favor I have had mercy on you.
11 Therefore your gates (I)shall be open continually;
They shall not be shut day or night,
That men may bring to you the wealth of the Gentiles,
And their kings in procession.
12 (J)For the nation and kingdom which will not serve you shall perish,
And those nations shall be utterly ruined.
13 “The(K) glory of Lebanon shall come to you,
The cypress, the pine, and the box tree together,
To beautify the place of My sanctuary;
And I will make (L)the place of My feet glorious.
14 Also the sons of those who afflicted you
Shall come (M)bowing to you,
And all those who despised you shall (N)fall prostrate at the soles of your feet;
And they shall call you The City of the Lord,
(O)Zion of the Holy One of Israel.
15 “Whereas you have been forsaken and hated,
So that no one went through you,
I will make you an eternal excellence,
A joy of many generations.
16 You shall drink the milk of the Gentiles,
(P)And milk the breast of kings;
You shall know that (Q)I, the Lord, am your Savior
And your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.
Dedication to Theophilus
1 Inasmuch as many have taken in hand to set in order a narrative of those (A)things which [a]have been fulfilled among us, 2 just as those who (B)from the beginning were (C)eyewitnesses and ministers of the word (D)delivered them to us, 3 it seemed good to me also, having [b]had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write to you an orderly account, (E)most excellent Theophilus, 4 (F)that you may know the certainty of those things in which you were instructed.
