Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
7 Afterward, when the king sat in his house, and the LORD had given him rest from all his enemies, all around,
2 the king said to Nathan the Prophet, “Behold, now I dwell in a house of cedar trees, and the Ark of God remains within the curtains.”
3 Then Nathan said to the king, “Go and do all that is in your heart. For the LORD is with you.”
4 And that same night, the Word of the LORD came to Nathan, saying,
5 “Go and tell my servant, David, “Thus says the LORD: ‘Shall you build Me a house for My dwelling?
6 ‘For I have dwelt in no house since the time that I brought the children of Israel out of Egypt until this day but have moved about in a Tent and Tabernacle.
7 ‘In every place I have moved about with all the children of Israel, have I ever spoken one word with any of the tribes of Israel, whom I Commanded to feed My people Israel, saying, “Why did you not build Me a house of cedar trees?”’
8 “Now, therefore, so say to my servant David, ‘Thus says the LORD of Hosts: “I took you from the sheepfolds, following the sheep, so that you might be ruler over My people, over Israel.
9 “And I was with you wherever you have walked and have destroyed all your enemies out of your sight, and have made you a great name, like the names of the great men who are on the Earth.
10 “Also, I will appoint a place for My people Israel, and will plant it, so that they may dwell in a place of their own and no longer move. Nor shall wicked people trouble them anymore as before,
11 “and since the time that I set judges over My people of Israel. And I will give you rest from all your enemies. Also, the LORD tells you that He will make you a house.
16 “And your house shall be established before you, and your kingdom, forever. Your throne shall be established forever.”’”
46 Then Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord.
47 “And my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.
48 “For He has looked on the poor degree of His servant. For behold, from now on all ages shall call me blessed.
49 “Because He Who is mighty has done great things for me, and Holy is His Name.
50 “And His mercy is from generation to generation on those who fear Him.
51 “He Who showed strength with His arm, He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
52 “He has put down the mighty from their seats and exalted those of low degree.
53 “He has filled the hungry with good things and sent away the rich empty.
54 “He has upheld Israel, His servant, to be mindful of His mercy,
55 “(as He has spoken to our fathers – that is, to Abraham and his seed) forever.”
89 I will sing the mercies of the LORD forever. With my mouth I will declare Your truth from generation to generation.
2 For I said, “Mercy shall be set up forever. Your truth shall You establish in the very heavens.
3 “I have made a covenant with My Chosen. I have sworn to David My servant,
4 “‘Your Seed will I establish forever and set up your Throne from generation to generation.’” Selah.
19 You spoke, then, in a vision to Your holy one, and said, “I have laid help upon one who is mighty. I have exalted one chosen out of the people.
20 “I have found David, My servant. With My holy oil have I anointed him.
21 “Therefore, My hand shall be established with him and My arm shall strengthen him.
22 “The enemy shall not oppress him, nor shall the wicked hurt him.
23 “But I will destroy his foes before his face and plague those who hate him.
24 “My truth also, and My mercy, shall be with him; and in My Name shall his horn be exalted.
25 “I will also set his hand in the sea, and his right hand in the floods.
26 “He shall cry to me, ‘You are my Father, my God, and the Rock of my salvation.’
25 Now, to Him Who is able to establish you according to my Gospel (and to the preaching of Jesus Christ) by the revelation of the mystery which was kept secret since the world began
26 (but now, at the Commandment of the everlasting God, is made visible and known among all nations by the Scriptures of the Prophets, for the obedience of faith);
27 to God, only wise, be praise, through Jesus Christ, forever. Amen.
(Written to the Romans from Corinth, and sent by Phoebe, servant of the church which is at Cenchrea.)
26 And in the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,
27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the House of David. And the virgin’s name was Mary.
28 And the angel went in to her, and said, “Hail, you who are freely beloved. The Lord is with you. You are blessed among women.”
29 And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and thought what kind of greeting that should be.
30 Then the angel said to her, “Do not fear, Mary. For you have found favor with God.
31 “For lo, you shall conceive in your womb, and bear a Son, and shall call His Name, Jesus.
32 “He shall be great and shall be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God shall give to Him the throne of his father David.
33 “And He shall reign over the House of Jacob forever. And of His Kingdom shall be no end.”
34 Then Mary said to the angel, “How shall this be, seeing I do not know man?”
35 And the angel answered, and said to her, “The Holy Ghost shall come upon you, and the power of the Most High shall overshadow you. Therefore, also, that Holy Thing which shall be born by you, shall be called the Son of God.
36 “And behold, your cousin, Elizabeth. She has also conceived a son in her old age. And this is her sixth month, who was called barren.
37 “For with God shall nothing be impossible.”
38 Then Mary said, “Behold the servant of the Lord. May it be to me according to your word.” So, the angel departed from her.
