Psalm 25:1-9

Psalm 25

Dependence on the Lord

Of David.

Lord, I appeal to you.[a](A)
My God, I trust in you.
Do not let me be disgraced;(B)
do not let my enemies gloat over me.(C)
No one who waits for you
will be disgraced;(D)
those who act treacherously without cause
will be disgraced.(E)

Make your ways known to me, Lord;
teach me your paths.(F)
Guide me in your truth and teach me,(G)
for you are the God of my salvation;(H)
I wait for you all day long.(I)
Remember, Lord, your compassion
and your faithful love,
for they have existed from antiquity.[b](J)
Do not remember the sins of my youth(K)
or my acts of rebellion;(L)
in keeping with your faithful love, remember me
because of your goodness, Lord.(M)

The Lord is good and upright;(N)
therefore he shows sinners the way.(O)
He leads the humble in what is right(P)
and teaches them his way.(Q)

Ezekiel 18:5-18

“Suppose a man is righteous and does what is just and right: He does not eat at the mountain shrines[a](A) or look to the idols of the house of Israel. He does not defile his neighbor’s wife(B) or approach a woman during her menstrual impurity.(C) He doesn’t oppress anyone(D) but returns his collateral to the debtor.(E) He does not commit robbery, but gives his bread to the hungry(F) and covers the naked with clothing. He doesn’t lend at interest or for profit(G) but keeps his hand from injustice and carries out true justice between men.(H) He follows my statutes and keeps my ordinances, acting faithfully. Such a person is righteous; he will certainly live.”(I) This is the declaration of the Lord God.

10 “But suppose the man has a violent son, who sheds blood(J) and does any of these things, 11 though the father has done none of them. Indeed, when the son eats at the mountain shrines and defiles his neighbor’s wife, 12 and when he oppresses the poor and needy, commits robbery, and does not return collateral, and when he looks to the idols, commits detestable acts,(K) 13 and lends at interest or for profit, will he live? He will not live! Since he has committed all these detestable acts, he will certainly die. His death will be his own fault.[b](L)

14 “Now suppose he has a son who sees all the sins his father has committed, and though he sees them, he does not do likewise. 15 He does not eat at the mountain shrines or look to the idols of the house of Israel. He does not defile his neighbor’s wife. 16 He doesn’t oppress anyone, hold collateral, or commit robbery. He gives his bread to the hungry and covers the naked with clothing. 17 He keeps his hand from harming the poor, not taking interest or profit on a loan. He practices my ordinances and follows my statutes. Such a person will not die for his father’s iniquity. He will certainly live.

18 “As for his father, he will die for his own iniquity because he practiced fraud, robbed his brother, and did among his people what was not good.(M)

Acts 13:32-41

32 And we ourselves proclaim to you the good news of the promise that was made to our ancestors.(A) 33 God has fulfilled this for us, their children, by raising up Jesus, as it is written in the second Psalm:

You are my Son;
today I have become your Father.[a][b] (B)

34 As to his raising him from the dead, never to return to decay, he has spoken in this way, I will give you the holy and sure promises of David.[c](C) 35 Therefore he also says in another passage, You will not let your Holy One see decay.[d](D) 36 For David, after serving God’s purpose in his own generation, fell asleep,(E) was buried with his fathers, and decayed,(F) 37 but the one God raised up did not decay. 38 Therefore, let it be known to you, brothers and sisters, that through this man forgiveness of sins is being proclaimed to you.(G) 39 Everyone who believes is justified[e] through him from everything that you could not be justified from through the law of Moses.(H) 40 So beware that what is said in the prophets does not happen to you:

41 Look, you scoffers,
marvel and vanish away,
because I am doing a work in your days,
a work that you will never believe,
even if someone were to explain it to you.[f](I)
