Psalm 131

I Have Quieted My Soul

A Song of Ascents. Of David.

131 O Yahweh, my heart is not (A)exalted, and my eyes are not (B)raised high;
And I do not [a]involve myself in (C)great matters,
Or in matters (D)too marvelous for me.
Surely I have (E)soothed and quieted my soul,
Like a weaned (F)child with his mother,
Like a weaned child is my soul [b]within me.
O Israel, (G)wait for Yahweh
(H)From now until forever.

Jeremiah 28:10-17

10 Then Hananiah the prophet took (A)the bar of the yoke from the neck of Jeremiah the prophet and broke it. 11 And Hananiah spoke in the sight of all the people, saying, “(B)Thus says Yahweh, ‘Even so will I break within two full years the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon from the neck of all the nations.’” Then the prophet Jeremiah went his way.

12 Then the (C)word of Yahweh came to Jeremiah after Hananiah the prophet had broken the bar of the yoke from off the neck of the prophet Jeremiah, saying, 13 “Go and speak to Hananiah, saying, ‘Thus says Yahweh, “You have broken the bars of a yoke made of wood, but you have made in their place the (D)bars of a yoke made of iron.” 14 For thus says Yahweh of hosts, the God of Israel, “I have put a (E)yoke of iron on the neck of all these nations, that they may serve Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and they will (F)serve him. And (G)I have even given him the beasts of the field.”’” 15 Then Jeremiah the prophet said to Hananiah the prophet, “Listen now, Hananiah, Yahweh has not sent you, and (H)you have made this people trust in a lie. 16 Therefore thus says Yahweh, ‘(I)Behold, I am about to [a]remove you from the face of the earth. This year you are going to (J)die because you have (K)spoken rebellion against Yahweh.’”

17 So Hananiah the prophet died in the same year in the seventh month.

Romans 3:1-8

There Is None Righteous

Then what advantage has the Jew? Or what is the value of circumcision? Great in every respect. First of all, that (A)they were entrusted with the (B)oracles of God. What then? If (C)some [a]did not believe, does their [b]unbelief abolish the faithfulness of God? (D)May it never be! Rather, let God be true and every man (E)a liar, as it is written,

(F)That You may be justified in Your words,
And overcome when You [c]are judged.”

But if our unrighteousness [d](G)demonstrates the righteousness of God, (H)what shall we say? Is the God who inflicts wrath unrighteous? ((I)I am speaking in human terms.) (J)May it never be! For otherwise, how will (K)God judge the world? But if through my lie (L)the truth of God abounded to His glory, (M)why am I also still being judged as a sinner? And why not say (as we are slanderously reported and as some claim that we say), “(N)Let us do evil that good may come”? [e]Their condemnation is just.
