Psalm 110

Psalm 110[a]

A psalm of David.

110 Here is the Lord’s proclamation[b] to my lord:[c]
“Sit down at my right hand[d] until I make your enemies your footstool.”[e]
The Lord[f] extends[g] your dominion[h] from Zion.
Rule in the midst of your enemies.
Your people willingly follow you[i] when you go into battle.[j]
On the holy hills[k] at sunrise[l] the dew of your youth[m] belongs to you.[n]
The Lord makes this promise on oath[o] and will not revoke it:[p]
“You are an eternal priest[q] after the pattern of[r] Melchizedek.”[s]
O Lord,[t] at your right hand
he strikes down[u] kings in the day he unleashes his anger.[v]
He executes judgment[w] against[x] the nations.
He fills the valleys with corpses;[y]
he shatters their heads over the vast battlefield.[z]
From the stream along the road he drinks;
then he lifts up his head.[aa]

Exodus 2:11-25

The Presumption of the Deliverer

11 [a] In those days,[b] when[c] Moses had grown up, he went out to his people[d] and observed[e] their hard labor, and he saw an Egyptian man attacking[f] a Hebrew man, one of his own people.[g] 12 He looked this way and that[h] and saw that no one was there,[i] and then he attacked[j] the Egyptian and concealed the body[k] in the sand. 13 When he went out[l] the next day,[m] there were[n] two Hebrew men fighting. So he said to the one who was in the wrong,[o] “Why are you attacking[p] your fellow Hebrew?”[q]

14 The man[r] replied, “Who made you a ruler[s] and a judge over us? Are you planning[t] to kill me like you killed that[u] Egyptian?” Then Moses was afraid, thinking,[v] “Surely what I did[w] has become known.” 15 When Pharaoh heard[x] about this event,[y] he sought to kill Moses. So Moses fled[z] from Pharaoh and settled in the land of Midian,[aa] and he settled[ab] by a certain well.[ac]

16 Now a priest of Midian had seven daughters, and they came and began to draw[ad] water[ae] and fill[af] the troughs in order to water their father’s flock. 17 When some[ag] shepherds came and drove them away,[ah] Moses came up and defended them[ai] and then watered their flock. 18 So when they came home[aj] to their father Reuel,[ak] he asked, “Why have you come home so early[al] today?” 19 They said, “An Egyptian man rescued us[am] from the shepherds,[an] and he actually[ao] drew water for us and watered the flock!” 20 He said[ap] to his daughters, “So where is he?[aq] Why in the world[ar] did you leave the man? Call him, so that he may eat[as] a meal[at] with us.”

21 Moses agreed[au] to stay with the man, and he gave his daughter Zipporah to Moses in marriage.[av] 22 When she bore[aw] a son, Moses[ax] named him Gershom, for he said, “I have become a resident foreigner in a foreign land.”[ay]

The Call of the Deliverer

23 [az] During[ba] that long period of time[bb] the king of Egypt died, and the Israelites[bc] groaned because of the slave labor. They cried out, and their desperate cry[bd] because of their slave labor went up to God. 24 God heard their groaning;[be] God remembered[bf] his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. 25 God saw[bg] the Israelites, and God understood.[bh]

Hebrews 11:27-28

27 By faith he left Egypt without fearing the king’s anger, for he persevered as though he could see the one who is invisible. 28 By faith he kept the Passover and the sprinkling of the blood,[a] so that the one who destroyed the firstborn would not touch them.
