Psalm 97-99

Psalm 97[a]

Divine King and Universal Judge

The Lord is King;[b] let the earth exult;
    let the distant isles rejoice.
[c]Clouds and darkness[d] surround him;
    righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.
Fire[e] precedes him,
    consuming his enemies on every side.
His flashes of lightnwing illumine the world;
    the earth sees this and trembles.
The mountains melt like wax before the Lord,
    before the Lord of all the earth.
The heavens proclaim his righteousness,[f]
    and all the nations behold his glory.
All who worship images are put to shame,
    those who boast of their worthless idols;
    bow down before him, all you gods.[g]
Zion hears and rejoices,
    and the cities[h] of Judah exult
    because of your judgments, O Lord.
For you, O Lord, are the Most High over all the earth;
    you are exalted far above all gods.
10 [i]Let those who love the Lord hate evil,
    for he protects the souls of his faithful ones
    and rescues them from the hand of the wicked.
11 [j]Light dawns for the righteous,
    and joy for the upright in heart.
12 Rejoice in the Lord, you who are righteous,
    and give thanks to his holy name.

Psalm 98[k]

Praise of the Lord, King and Judge

A psalm.

Sing to the Lord a new song,[l]
    for he has accomplished marvelous deeds.
His right hand and his holy arm
    have made him victorious.
The Lord has made known his salvation;
    he has manifested his righteousness for all the nations to see.[m]
He has remembered his kindness[n] and his fidelity
    to the house of Israel.
The farthest ends of the earth have witnessed
    the salvation of our God.
Sing joyfully to the Lord, all the earth;
    raise your voices in songs of praise.
Sing praise to the Lord with the harp,
    with the harp and melodious singing.
With trumpets and the sound of the horn
    sing joyfully to the King, the Lord.[o]
[p]Let the sea resound and everything in it,
    the world[q] and all its inhabitants.
Let the rivers clap their hands
    and the mountains shout for joy.
Let them sing before the Lord, who is coming,
    coming to judge the earth.
He will judge the world with justice
    and the nations with fairness.[r]

Psalm 99[s]

God, King of Justice and Holiness

The Lord is King;[t]
    let the nations tremble.
He sits enthroned on the cherubim;
    let the earth quake.
The Lord is great in Zion;
    he is exalted above all the peoples.
Let them praise your great and awesome name:[u]
    holy is he!
Mighty King, you love justice,
    and you have established fairness;
in Jacob[v] you have brought about
    what is just and right.
Exalt the Lord, our God,
    and worship at his footstool;
    holy is he![w]
Moses and Aaron were among his priests,
    and Samuel was among those who invoked his name;
they cried out to the Lord,
    and he answered them.[x]
He spoke to them from the pillar of cloud;[y]
    they obeyed his decrees and the law he gave them.
Lord, our God,
    you answered them;
you were a forgiving God to them,
    but you punished their wrongdoings.[z]
Exalt the Lord, our God,
    and worship at his holy mountain,
    for the Lord, our God, is holy.[aa]

Romans 16

Chapter 16

Recommendation of Phoebe.[a] I commend to you our sister Phoebe, who is a deaconess[b] of the Church at Cenchreae. Welcome her in the Lord in a manner worthy of the saints, and help her with whatever she may need from you, for she has been a benefactor of many people, including myself.

List of Greetings. Give my greetings to Prisca and Aquila, my fellow workers in Christ Jesus. They risked their lives for me, and I as well as all the Churches of the Gentiles am grateful to them. Greet also the Church that assembles in their house.

Give my greetings to my beloved friend Epaenetus, who was the first convert to Christ in the province of Asia. Greet Mary, who has worked extremely hard for you. Greet Andronicus and Junia,[c] my relatives who were in prison with me; they are eminent in the ranks of the apostles and were in Christ before I was.

Greet Ampliatus, my beloved in the Lord. Greet Urbanus, our fellow worker in Christ, and my dear friend Stachys. 10 Greet Apelles,[d] who has proved worthy in the service of Christ, and those who belong to the family of Aristobulus.[e]

11 Greetings to my kinsman Herodion. Greet those in the Lord who belong to the household of Narcissus.[f] 12 Greet Tryphaena and Tryphosa[g] who labor diligently in the Lord’s service. Greet my dear friend Persis, who also works hard for the Lord. 13 Give my greetings to Rufus,[h] one chosen by the Lord, as well as to his mother who has also been a mother to me.

14 Greet Asyncritus, Phlegon, Hermes, Patrobas, Hermas, and the brethren who are with them. 15 Greetings to Philologus and Julia, Nereus and his sister, and Olympas, as well as all the saints who are with them. 16 Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the Churches of Christ send you their greetings.

17 Beware of Dissenters. I urge you, brethren, to watch out for those who incite dissensions and obstacles in opposition to the teaching that you have learned. Take care to avoid them. 18 For such people are not servants of our Lord Jesus Christ but of their own appetites, and by smooth words and flattery they deceive the minds of the simple. 19 Your obedience has become known to all and has caused me to rejoice greatly over you. However, I want you to be wise in what is good and innocent in what is evil; 20 then the God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

21 Greetings from Paul’s Companions at Corinth. Timothy, my coworker, sends greetings to you, as do Lucius and Jason[i] and Sosipater, my kinsmen. 22 I, Tertius, who am writing down this letter, greet you in the Lord. 23 Greetings also from Gaius,[j] my host and the host to the whole Church, and from Erastus, the city treasurer, and our brother Quartus. [ 24 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.][k]

Glory to God through Jesus Christ[l]

25 Now to him who has the power to strengthen you
in accordance with the gospel that I preach
and the proclamation of Jesus Christ,
according to the revelation of the mystery
that was kept secret for long ages
26 but is now revealed,
and through the prophetic writings is made known to all the nations
according to the command of the eternal God
to bring them to the obedience of faith—
27 to God who alone is wise,
through Jesus Christ
be glory forever! Amen.
