Jehoram Reigns over Judah

21 (A)And Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers and was buried with his fathers in the city of David, and Jehoram his son became king in his place. Now he had brothers, the sons of Jehoshaphat: Azariah, Jehiel, Zechariah, [a]Azaryahu, Michael, and Shephatiah. All these were the sons of Jehoshaphat king (B)of Israel. And their father gave them many gifts of silver, gold, and precious things, (C)with fortified cities in Judah, but he gave the kingdom to Jehoram because he was the firstborn.

So Jehoram arose over the kingdom of his father and strengthened himself, and he (D)killed all his brothers with the sword, and some of the commanders of Israel also. (E)Jehoram was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem. (F)And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, just as the house of Ahab had done, (G)for Ahab’s daughter was his wife; and he did what was evil in the sight of Yahweh. However, Yahweh was not willing to make the house of David a ruin because of the covenant which He had cut with David, (H)and since He had promised to give a lamp to him and his sons forever.

Revolt Against Judah

In his days (I)Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah and made a king over themselves. Then Jehoram crossed over with his commanders and all his chariots with him. And he arose by night and struck down the Edomites who were surrounding him and the commanders of the chariots. 10 So Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah to this day. Then Libnah revolted at the same time from under his hand, because he had forsaken Yahweh, the God of his fathers. 11 Moreover, (J)he made high places in the mountains of Judah, and caused the inhabitants of Jerusalem (K)to play the harlot and drove Judah astray.

12 Then a letter came to him from Elijah the prophet saying, “Thus says Yahweh, the God of your father David, ‘Because (L)you have not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat your father (M)and the ways of Asa king of Judah, 13 but (N)have walked in the way of the kings of Israel, and have caused Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to play the harlot (O)as the house of Ahab played the harlot, and you (P)have also killed your brothers, [b]your own family, who were better than you, 14 behold, Yahweh is going to smite your people, your sons, your wives, and all your possessions with a great [c]calamity; 15 and (Q)you will suffer [d]severe sickness, a disease of your bowels, until your bowels come out because of the sickness, day by day.’”

16 Then (R)Yahweh stirred up against Jehoram the spirit of the Philistines and (S)the Arabs who [e]bordered the Ethiopians; 17 and they went up against Judah and invaded it, and carried away all the possessions found in the king’s house together with his sons and his wives, so that no son was left to him except [f](T)Jehoahaz, the youngest of his sons.

18 So after all this Yahweh smote him (U)in his bowels with an incurable sickness. 19 Now it happened in the course of time, at the end of two years, that his bowels came out because of his sickness and he died with this greatly painful disease. And his people made no fire for him like (V)the fire for his fathers. 20 He was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years; and he departed [g](W)with no one’s regret, and they buried him in the city of David, (X)but not in the tombs of the kings.

Ahaziah Reigns over Judah

22 (Y)Then the inhabitants of Jerusalem made [h]Ahaziah, his youngest son, king in his place, for the band of men who came with (Z)the Arabs to the camp had killed all the older sons. So Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah became king. Ahaziah was [i]twenty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Athaliah, the [j]granddaughter of Omri. He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab, for his mother was his counselor to do wickedly. And he did what was evil in the sight of Yahweh like the house of Ahab, for they were his counselors after the death of his father, to (AA)his destruction.

Ahaziah Goes with Jehoram of Israel

He also walked according to their counsel, and went with Jehoram the son of Ahab king of Israel to wage war against Hazael king of Aram at Ramoth-gilead. But the [k](AB)Arameans struck [l]Joram. So he returned to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which they caused by striking him at Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of Aram. And [m]Ahaziah, the son of Jehoram king of Judah, went down to see Jehoram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick.

Now (AC)the downfall of Ahaziah was from God, in that [n]he went to Joram. And when he came, (AD)he went out with Jehoram against Jehu the son of Nimshi, (AE)whom Yahweh had anointed to cut off the house of Ahab.

Jehu Kills the Princes of Judah

(AF)Now it happened when Jehu was executing judgment on the house of Ahab, he found the princes of Judah and the sons of Ahaziah’s brothers attending to Ahaziah, and killed them. (AG)And he sought Ahaziah, and they caught him while he was hiding himself in Samaria; they brought him to Jehu, put him to death, (AH)and buried him. For they said, “He is the son of Jehoshaphat, (AI)who sought Yahweh with all his heart.” So there was no one of the house of Ahaziah to retain the power of the kingdom.

10 (AJ)Now Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son had died. So she rose and destroyed all the royal seed of the house of Judah. 11 But Jehoshabeath the king’s daughter took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him from among the king’s sons who were being put to death, and put him and his nurse in the bedroom. So Jehoshabeath, the daughter of King Jehoram, the wife of Jehoiada the priest (for she was the sister of Ahaziah), hid him from Athaliah, so she did not put him to death. 12 So he was hidden with them in the house of God six years while Athaliah was reigning over the land.

John 14

I Am the Way, the Truth, and the Life

14 (A)Do not let your heart be troubled; [a]believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for (B)I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, (C)I will come again and receive you to Myself, that (D)where I am, there you may be also. And you know the way where I am going.” (E)Thomas *said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going. How do we know the way?” Jesus *said to him, “I am (F)the way, and (G)the truth, and (H)the life. No one comes to the Father but through Me.

Oneness with the Father

(I)If you have come to know Me, you will know My Father also; from now on you (J)know Him, and have (K)seen Him.”

(L)Philip *said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” Jesus *said to him, “Have I been with you all so long and have you not come to know Me, Philip? (M)He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Do you not believe that (N)I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? (O)The words that I say to you I do not speak from Myself, but the Father abiding in Me does His works. 11 Believe Me that (P)I am in the Father and the Father is in Me; otherwise (Q)believe because of the works themselves. 12 Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and (R)greater works than these he will do because (S)I go to the Father. 13 (T)Whatever you ask in My name, this will I do, so that (U)the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask Me anything (V)in My name, I will do it.

15 (W)If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.

Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit

16 And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another [b](X)Advocate, that He may be with you forever; 17 (Y)the Spirit of truth, (Z)whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him. You know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.

18 “I will not leave you as orphans; (AA)I will come to you. 19 [c](AB)After a little while (AC)the world will no longer see Me, but you will see Me; (AD)because I live, you will live also. 20 (AE)On that day you will know that (AF)I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. 21 (AG)He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and (AH)he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will (AI)disclose Myself to him.” 22 (AJ)Judas (not Iscariot) *said to Him, “Lord, what then has happened (AK)that You are going to disclose Yourself to us and not to the world?” 23 Jesus answered and said to him, (AL)If anyone loves Me, he will (AM)keep My word; and (AN)My Father will love him, and We (AO)will come to him and make Our dwelling with him. 24 He who does not love Me (AP)does not keep My words; and (AQ)the word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father’s who sent Me.

25 “These things I have spoken to you while abiding with you. 26 But the (AR)Advocate, the Holy Spirit, (AS)whom the Father will send in My name, (AT)He will teach you all things, and (AU)bring to your remembrance all that I said to you. 27 (AV)Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. (AW)Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful. 28 (AX)You heard that I said to you, ‘I go away, and (AY)I will come to you.’ If you loved Me, you would have rejoiced because (AZ)I go to the Father, for (BA)the Father is greater than I. 29 And now (BB)I have told you before it happens, so that when it happens, you may believe. 30 I will not speak much more with you, for (BC)the ruler of the world is coming, and he has nothing in Me; 31 but so that the world may know that I love the Father, [d]I do exactly as (BD)the Father commanded Me. Get up, (BE)let us go from here.
