Psalm 7-9

The Lord Implored to Defend the Psalmist against the Wicked.

A [a]Shiggaion of David, which he sang to the Lord [b]concerning Cush, a Benjamite.

O Lord my God, (A)in You I have taken refuge;
Save me from all those who pursue me, and (B)deliver me,
Or he will tear [c]my soul (C)like a lion,
[d]Dragging me away, while there is none to deliver.

O Lord my God, if I have done this,
If there is (D)injustice in my hands,
If I have (E)rewarded evil to [e]my friend,
Or have (F)plundered [f]him who without cause was my adversary,
Let the enemy pursue [g]my soul and overtake [h]it;
And let him trample my life down to the ground
And lay my glory in the dust. [i]Selah.

(G)Arise, O Lord, in Your anger;
(H)Lift up Yourself against (I)the rage of my adversaries,
And (J)arouse Yourself [j]for me; You have appointed judgment.
Let the assembly of the (K)peoples encompass You,
And over [k]them return on high.
The Lord (L)judges the peoples;
[l](M)Vindicate me, O Lord, according to my righteousness and my integrity that is in me.
O let (N)the evil of the wicked come to an end, but (O)establish the righteous;
For the righteous God (P)tries the hearts and [m]minds.
10 My (Q)shield is [n]with God,
Who (R)saves the upright in heart.
11 God is a (S)righteous judge,
And a God who has (T)indignation every day.

12 If [o]a man (U)does not repent, He will (V)sharpen His sword;
He has (W)bent His bow and [p]made it ready.
13 He has also prepared [q]for Himself deadly weapons;
He makes His (X)arrows fiery shafts.
14 Behold, he travails with wickedness,
And he (Y)conceives mischief and brings forth falsehood.
15 He has dug a pit and hollowed it out,
And has (Z)fallen into the hole which he made.
16 His (AA)mischief will return upon his own head,
And his (AB)violence will descend upon [r]his own pate.

17 I will give thanks to the Lord (AC)according to His righteousness
And will (AD)sing praise to the name of the Lord Most High.

The Lord’s Glory and Man’s Dignity.

For the choir director; on the Gittith. A Psalm of David.

O Lord, our Lord,
How majestic is Your name in all the earth,
Who have [s](AE)displayed Your splendor above the heavens!
(AF)From the mouth of infants and nursing babes You have established [t](AG)strength
Because of Your adversaries,
To make (AH)the enemy and the revengeful cease.

When I [u](AI)consider (AJ)Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,
The (AK)moon and the stars, which You have [v]ordained;
(AL)What is man that You [w]take thought of him,
And the son of man that You care for him?
Yet You have made him a (AM)little lower than [x]God,
And (AN)You crown him with (AO)glory and majesty!
You make him to (AP)rule over the works of Your hands;
You have (AQ)put all things under his feet,
All sheep and oxen,
And also the [y]beasts of the field,
The birds of the heavens and the fish of the sea,
Whatever passes through the paths of the seas.

(AR)O Lord, our Lord,
How majestic is Your name in all the earth!

A Psalm of Thanksgiving for God’s Justice.

For the choir director; on [z]Muth-labben. A Psalm of David.

I will give thanks to the Lord with all (AS)my heart;
I will (AT)tell of all Your [aa]wonders.
I will be glad and (AU)exult in You;
I will (AV)sing praise to Your name, O (AW)Most High.

When my enemies turn back,
They stumble and (AX)perish before You.
For You have (AY)maintained [ab]my just cause;
You have sat on the throne [ac](AZ)judging righteously.
You have (BA)rebuked the nations, You have destroyed the wicked;
You have (BB)blotted out their name forever and ever.
[ad]The enemy has come to an end in perpetual ruins,
And You have uprooted the cities;
The very (BC)memory of them has perished.

But the (BD)Lord [ae]abides forever;
He has established His (BE)throne for judgment,
And He will (BF)judge the world in righteousness;
He will execute judgment for the peoples with equity.
[af]The Lord also will be a (BG)stronghold for the oppressed,
A stronghold in times of trouble;
10 And [ag]those who (BH)know Your name will put their trust in You,
For You, O Lord, have not (BI)forsaken those who seek You.

11 Sing praises to the Lord, who (BJ)dwells in Zion;
(BK)Declare among the peoples His deeds.
12 For (BL)He who [ah]requires blood remembers them;
He does not forget (BM)the cry of the afflicted.
13 Be gracious to me, O Lord;
See my affliction from those (BN)who hate me,
You who (BO)lift me up from the gates of death,
14 That I may tell of (BP)all Your praises,
That in the gates of the daughter of Zion
I may (BQ)rejoice in Your [ai]salvation.
15 The nations have sunk down (BR)in the pit which they have made;
In the (BS)net which they hid, their own foot has been caught.
16 The Lord has (BT)made Himself known;
He has (BU)executed judgment.
In the work of his own hands the wicked is snared. [aj]Higgaion [ak]Selah.

17 The wicked will [al](BV)return to [am]Sheol,
Even all the nations who (BW)forget God.
18 For the (BX)needy will not always be forgotten,
Nor the (BY)hope of the afflicted perish forever.
19 (BZ)Arise, O Lord, do not let man prevail;
Let the nations be (CA)judged before You.
20 Put them (CB)in fear, O Lord;
Let the nations know that they are (CC)but men. Selah.

Acts 18

Paul at Corinth

18 After these things he left (A)Athens and went to (B)Corinth. And he found a Jew named (C)Aquila, a native of (D)Pontus, having recently come from (E)Italy with his wife (F)Priscilla, because (G)Claudius had commanded all the Jews to leave Rome. He came to them, and because he was of the same trade, he stayed with them and (H)they were working, for by trade they were tent-makers. And he was reasoning (I)in the synagogue every (J)Sabbath and trying to persuade (K)Jews and Greeks.

But when (L)Silas and Timothy (M)came down from (N)Macedonia, Paul began devoting himself completely to the word, solemnly (O)testifying to the Jews that (P)Jesus was the [a]Christ. But when they resisted and blasphemed, he (Q)shook out his garments and said to them, “Your (R)blood be on your own heads! I am clean. From now on I will go (S)to the Gentiles.” Then he left there and went to the house of a man named [b]Titius Justus, (T)a worshiper of God, whose house was next to the synagogue. (U)Crispus, (V)the leader of the synagogue, believed in the Lord (W)with all his household, and many of the (X)Corinthians when they heard were believing and being baptized. And the Lord said to Paul in the night by (Y)a vision, “Do not be afraid any longer, but go on speaking and do not be silent; 10 for I am with you, and no man will attack you in order to harm you, for I have many people in this city.” 11 And he settled there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.

12 But while Gallio was (Z)proconsul of (AA)Achaia, (AB)the Jews with one accord rose up against Paul and brought him before (AC)the judgment seat, 13 saying, “This man persuades men to worship God contrary to (AD)the law.” 14 But when Paul was about to (AE)open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, “If it were a matter of wrong or of vicious crime, O Jews, it would be reasonable for me to put up with you; 15 but if there are (AF)questions about words and names and your own law, look after it yourselves; I am unwilling to be a judge of these matters.” 16 And he drove them away from (AG)the judgment seat. 17 And they all took hold of (AH)Sosthenes, (AI)the leader of the synagogue, and began beating him in front of (AJ)the judgment seat. But Gallio was not concerned about any of these things.

18 Paul, having remained many days longer, (AK)took leave of (AL)the brethren and put out to sea for (AM)Syria, and with him were (AN)Priscilla and (AO)Aquila. In (AP)Cenchrea [c]he (AQ)had his hair cut, for he was keeping a vow. 19 They came to (AR)Ephesus, and he left them there. Now he himself entered (AS)the synagogue and reasoned with the Jews. 20 When they asked him to stay for a longer time, he did not consent, 21 but (AT)taking leave of them and saying, “I will return to you again (AU)if God wills,” he set sail from (AV)Ephesus.

22 When he had landed at (AW)Caesarea, he went up and greeted the church, and went down to (AX)Antioch.

Third Missionary Journey

23 And having spent some time there, he left and passed successively through the (AY)Galatian region and Phrygia, strengthening all the disciples.

24 Now a Jew named (AZ)Apollos, an (BA)Alexandrian by birth, [d]an eloquent man, came to (BB)Ephesus; and he was mighty in the Scriptures. 25 This man had been instructed in (BC)the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he was speaking and teaching accurately the things concerning Jesus, being acquainted only with (BD)the baptism of John; 26 and [e]he began to speak out boldly in the synagogue. But when (BE)Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him aside and explained to him (BF)the way of God more accurately. 27 And when he wanted to go across to (BG)Achaia, (BH)the brethren encouraged him and wrote to (BI)the disciples to welcome him; and when he had arrived, he greatly [f]helped those who had believed through grace, 28 for he powerfully refuted the Jews in public, demonstrating (BJ)by the Scriptures that (BK)Jesus was the [g]Christ.
