Old/New Testament
My Soul Reaches for You
A Psalm of David.
143 O Yahweh, hear my prayer,
(A)Give ear to my supplications!
Answer me in Your (B)faithfulness, in Your (C)righteousness!
2 And (D)do not enter into judgment with Your slave,
For (E)no one living is righteous in Your sight.
3 For the enemy has pursued my soul;
He has crushed my life (F)to the ground;
He (G)has made me inhabit dark places, like those who have long been dead.
4 Therefore (H)my spirit was faint within me;
My heart was [a](I)appalled within me.
5 I (J)remember the days of old;
I (K)meditate on all You have done;
I (L)muse on the work of Your hands.
6 I (M)stretch out my hands to You;
My (N)soul reaches for You like a weary land. [b]Selah.
7 (O)Answer me quickly, O Yahweh, my (P)spirit wastes away;
(Q)Do not hide Your face from me,
Or I will become like (R)those who go down to the pit.
8 Cause me to hear Your (S)lovingkindness (T)in the morning;
For I trust (U)in You;
Cause me to know the (V)way in which I should walk;
For to You I (W)lift up my soul.
9 (X)Deliver me from my enemies, O Yahweh,
I have concealed myself in You.
10 (Y)Teach me to do Your will,
For You are my God;
Let (Z)Your good Spirit (AA)lead me on level [c]ground.
11 (AB)For the sake of Your name, O Yahweh, (AC)revive me.
(AD)In Your righteousness bring my soul out of distress.
12 And in Your lovingkindness, [d](AE)cut off my enemies
And cause all those who assail my soul to (AF)perish,
For (AG)I am Your slave.
Blessed Be Yahweh, My Rock
Of David.
144 Blessed be Yahweh, (AH)my rock,
Who (AI)trains my hands for war,
My fingers for battle;
2 My lovingkindness and (AJ)my fortress,
My (AK)stronghold and my deliverer,
My (AL)shield and He in whom I take refuge,
Who (AM)subdues [e]my people under me.
3 O Yahweh, (AN)what is man, that You know him?
Or the son of man, that You think of him?
4 (AO)Man is like a breath;
His (AP)days are like a passing shadow.
5 O Yahweh, (AQ)bow Your heavens, and (AR)come down;
(AS)Touch the mountains, that they may smoke.
6 Flash forth (AT)lightning and scatter them;
Send out Your (AU)arrows and confuse them.
7 Send forth Your hand (AV)from on high;
Set me free and (AW)deliver me out of many waters,
Out of the hand of (AX)foreigners
8 Whose mouth (AY)speaks worthlessness,
And whose (AZ)right hand is a right hand of lying.
9 O God, I will sing a (BA)new song to You;
Upon a (BB)harp of ten strings I will sing praises to You,
10 Who (BC)gives salvation to kings,
Who (BD)sets David His servant free from the evil sword.
11 Set me free and deliver me out of the hand of the sons of a (BE)foreigner,
Whose mouth (BF)speaks worthlessness
And whose (BG)right hand is a right hand of lying.
12 That our sons would be as (BH)grown-up plants in their youth,
And our daughters as (BI)corner pillars [f]fashioned as for a palace;
13 That our (BJ)granaries would be full, furnishing every kind of produce,
And our flocks would bring forth thousands and ten thousands in our fields outside;
14 That our (BK)cattle would [g]bear
Without [h](BL)mishap and without [i](BM)loss,
And without (BN)outcry in our streets!
15 How blessed are the people for whom this is so;
How (BO)blessed are the people for whom God is Yahweh!
Yahweh’s Greatness Is Unsearchable

21 In (A)the Law it is written, “(B)By men of strange tongues and by the lips of strangers I will speak to this people, and even so they will not listen to Me,” says the [a]Lord. 22 So then tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe but to unbelievers; but (C)prophecy is for a sign not to unbelievers but to those who believe. 23 Therefore if the whole church assembles together and all speak in tongues, and [b]uninformed men or unbelievers enter, will they not say that (D)you are out of your mind? 24 But if all (E)prophesy, and an unbeliever or an [c]uninformed man enters, he is (F)convicted by all, he is called to account by all; 25 (G)the secrets of his heart are disclosed; and so he will (H)fall on his face and worship God, declaring that (I)surely God is among you.
Orderly Worship
26 (J)What is the outcome then, (K)brothers? When you assemble, (L)each one has a (M)psalm, has a (N)teaching, has a (O)revelation, has a (P)tongue, has a [d](Q)translation. Let (R)all things be done for edification. 27 If anyone speaks in a (S)tongue, it should be by two or at the most three, and each in turn, and one must [e](T)translate; 28 but if there is no [f]translator, he must keep silent in the church, and let him speak to himself and to God. 29 And let two or three (U)prophets speak, and let the others (V)pass judgment. 30 But if a revelation is made to another who is seated, the first one must keep silent. 31 For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all may be exhorted. 32 And the spirits of prophets are subject to prophets; 33 for God is not a God of (W)confusion but of [g]peace, as in (X)all the churches of the (Y)saints.
34 The women are to (Z)keep silent in the churches, for they are not permitted to speak, but (AA)are to subject themselves, just as (AB)the Law also says. 35 But if they desire to learn anything, let them ask their own husbands at home, for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in church. 36 [h]Was it from you that the word of God first went forth? Or has it arrived to you only?
37 (AC)If anyone thinks he is a prophet or (AD)spiritual, let him recognize that the things which I write to you (AE)are the Lord’s commandment. 38 But if anyone remains ignorant about this, he [i]is ignored by God.
39 Therefore, my brothers, (AF)earnestly desire to (AG)prophesy, and do not forbid to speak in tongues. 40 But (AH)all things must be done properly and in an orderly manner.
