¹⁰ and to another the workings of ^(A)miracles, and to another ^(B)prophecy, and to another the ^[a](C)distinguishing of spirits, to someone else various ^(D)kinds of tongues, and to another the ^[b](E)translation of tongues.

⁵ But I wish that you all ^(A)spoke in tongues, but ^(B)even more that you would prophesy. And greater is one who prophesies than one who ^(C)speaks in tongues, unless he ^[a]translates, so that the church may receive ^(D)edification.

¹³ Therefore let one who speaks in a tongue pray that he may ^[a]translate.

²⁷ If anyone speaks in a ^(A)tongue, it should be by two or at the most three, and each in turn, and one must ^[a](B)translate; ²⁸ but if there is no ^[b]translator, he must keep silent in the church, and let him speak to himself and to God. ²⁹ And let two or three ^(C)prophets speak, and let the others ^(D)pass judgment. ³⁰ But if a revelation is made to another who is seated, the first one must keep silent. ³¹ For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all may be exhorted. ³² And the spirits of prophets are subject to prophets; ³³ for God is not a God of ^(E)confusion but of ^[c]peace, as in ^(F)all the churches of the ^(G)saints.

³⁴ The women are to ^(H)keep silent in the churches, for they are not permitted to speak, but ^(I)are to subject themselves, just as ^(J)the Law also says. ³⁵ But if they desire to learn anything, let them ask their own husbands at home, for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in church. ^36 [d]Was it from you that the word of God first went forth? Or has it arrived to you only?

^37 (K)If anyone thinks he is a prophet or ^(L)spiritual, let him recognize that the things which I write to you ^(M)are the Lord’s commandment. ³⁸ But if anyone remains ignorant about this, he ^[e]is ignored by God.

³⁹ Therefore, my brothers, ^(N)earnestly desire to ^(O)prophesy, and do not forbid to speak in tongues. ⁴⁰ But ^(P)all things must be done properly and in an orderly manner.
