Psalm 87-88

Yahweh Loves the Gates of Zion

Of the sons of Korah. A Psalm. A Song.

87 His (A)foundation is in the holy mountains.
Yahweh (B)loves the gates of Zion
More than all the dwelling places of Jacob.
(C)Glorious things are spoken of you,
O (D)city of God. [a]Selah.
“I shall mention [b](E)Rahab and Babylon among those who know Me;
Behold, Philistia and (F)Tyre with [c](G)Ethiopia:
‘This one was born there.’”
But of Zion it shall be said, “This one and that one were born in her”;
And the Most High Himself will (H)establish her.
Yahweh will count when He (I)registers the peoples,
“This one was born there.” Selah.
And (J)singers, just like the (K)dancers, will all say,
“All my (L)springs are in you.”

Incline Your Ear to My Cry

A Song. A Psalm of the sons of Korah. For the choir director. According to Mahalath Leannoth. A [d]Maskil of Heman [e]the Ezrahite.

88 O Yahweh, the (M)God of my salvation,
I have (N)cried out by day and throughout the night before You.
Let my prayer (O)come before You;
(P)Incline Your ear to my cry of lamentation!
For my (Q)soul has been saturated with calamities,
And (R)my life has reached Sheol.
I am counted among those who (S)go down to the pit;
I am like a man (T)without strength,
Released (U)among the dead,
Like the slain who lie in the grave,
Whom You remember no more,
And they are (V)cut off from Your hand.
You have put me in (W)the pit far below,
In (X)dark places, in the (Y)depths.
Your wrath (Z)lies upon me,
And You afflict me with (AA)all Your breaking waves. [f]Selah.
You have removed (AB)my acquaintances far from me;
You have set me as [g]an (AC)abomination to them;
I am (AD)shut up and cannot go out.
My (AE)eye has wasted away because of affliction;
I have (AF)called upon You every day, O Yahweh;
I have (AG)spread out my [h]hands to You.

10 Will You do wonders for the dead?
Will (AH)the [i]departed spirits rise and praise You? Selah.
11 Will Your lovingkindness be recounted in the grave,
Your faithfulness in [j]Abaddon?
12 Will Your wonders be known in the (AI)darkness?
And Your righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?

13 But as for me, O Yahweh, I have cried out (AJ)to You for help,
And (AK)in the morning my prayer comes before You.
14 O Yahweh, why (AL)do You reject my soul?
Why do You (AM)hide Your face from me?
15 I have been afflicted and (AN)about to breathe my last from my youth on;
I bear (AO)Your terrors; I am [k]overcome.
16 Your (AP)burning anger has passed over me;
Your horrors have [l](AQ)destroyed me.
17 They have (AR)surrounded me (AS)like water all day long;
They have (AT)encompassed me altogether.
18 You have removed (AU)lover and friend far from me;
My acquaintances are in darkness.

Romans 13

Be Subject to Government

13 Every [a](A)person is to be in (B)subjection to the governing authorities. For (C)there is no authority except [b]from God, and those which exist have been appointed by God. Therefore [c]whoever resists that authority has opposed the ordinance of God; and they who have opposed will receive condemnation upon themselves. For (D)rulers are not a cause of fear for [d]good behavior, but for evil. Do you want to have no fear of that authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same; for it is a minister of God to you for good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid; for it does not bear the sword in vain, for it is a minister of God, an (E)avenger who brings wrath on the one who practices evil. Therefore it is necessary to be in subjection, not only because of that wrath, but also because of (F)conscience. For because of this you also pay taxes, for rulers are servants of God, devoting themselves to this very thing. (G)Render to all what is due them: (H)tax to whom tax is due; (I)custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor.

Owe nothing to anyone except to love one another; for (J)he who loves [e]his neighbor has fulfilled the law. For this, “(K)You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet,” and if there is any other commandment, it is summed up in this word, “(L)You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 10 Love does not work evil against a neighbor; therefore (M)love is the fulfillment of the Law.

11 And do this, knowing the time, that it is (N)already the hour for you to (O)awaken from sleep; for now [f]salvation is nearer to us than when we believed. 12 (P)The night is almost gone, and (Q)the day is at hand. Therefore let us lay aside (R)the deeds of darkness and put on (S)the armor of light. 13 Let us (T)walk properly as in the day, (U)not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and sensuality, not in strife and jealousy. 14 But (V)put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh (W)in regard to its lusts.
