M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan
The Blowing of Trumpets
10 [a] The Lord spoke to Moses: 2 “Make[b] two trumpets of silver; you are to make[c] them from a single hammered piece.[d] You will use them[e] for assembling the community and for directing the traveling of the camps. 3 When[f] they blow[g] them both, all the community must come[h] to you to the entrance of the tent of meeting.
4 “But if they blow with one trumpet, then the leaders, the heads of the thousands of Israel, must come to you.[i] 5 When you blow an alarm,[j] then the camps that are located[k] on the east side must begin to travel.[l] 6 And when you blow an alarm the second time, then the camps that are located on the south side must begin to travel.[m] An alarm must be sounded[n] for their journeys. 7 But when you assemble the community,[o] you must blow the trumpets,[p] but you must not sound an alarm.[q] 8 The sons of Aaron, the priests, must blow the trumpets, and they will be to you for an eternal ordinance throughout your generations. 9 If you go to war in your land against an adversary who opposes[r] you, then you must sound an alarm with the trumpets, and you will be remembered before the Lord your God, and you will be saved[s] from your enemies.
10 “Also, in the time when you rejoice, such as[t] on your appointed festivals or[u] at the beginnings of your months, you must blow with your trumpets over your burnt offerings and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings, so that they may[v] become[w] a memorial for you before your God: I am the Lord your God.”
The Journey From Sinai to Kadesh
11 [x] On the twentieth day of the second month, in the second year, the cloud was taken up from the tabernacle of the testimony.[y] 12 So the Israelites set out[z] on their journeys from the desert[aa] of Sinai; and the cloud settled in the wilderness of Paran.
Judah Begins the Journey
13 This was the first time they set out on their journey according to the commandment[ab] of the Lord, by the authority[ac] of Moses.
14 The standard[ad] of the camp of the Judahites set out first according to their companies, and over his company was Nahshon son of Amminadab.
15 Over the company of the tribe of Issacharites was Nathanel son of Zuar, 16 and over the company of the tribe of the Zebulunites was Eliab son of Helon. 17 Then the tabernacle was dismantled, and the sons of Gershon and the sons of Merari set out, carrying the tabernacle.
Journey Arrangements for the Tribes
18 The standard of the camp of Reuben set out according to their companies; over his company was Elizur son of Shedeur. 19 Over the company of the tribe of the Simeonites was Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai, 20 and over the company of the tribe of the Gadites was Eliasaph son of Deuel. 21 And the Kohathites set out, carrying the articles for the sanctuary;[ae] the tabernacle was to be set up[af] before they arrived.[ag] 22 And the standard of the camp of the Ephraimites set out according to their companies; over his company was Elishama son of Ammihud. 23 Over the company of the tribe of the Manassehites was Gamaliel son of Pedahzur, 24 and over the company of the tribe of Benjaminites was Abidan son of Gideoni.
25 The standard of the camp of the Danites set out, which was the rear guard[ah] of all the camps by their companies; over his company was Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai. 26 Over the company of the tribe of the Asherites was Pagiel son of Ocran, 27 and over the company of the tribe of the Naphtalites was Ahira son of Enan. 28 These were the traveling arrangements[ai] of the Israelites according to their companies when they traveled.[aj]
The Appeal to Hobab
29 [ak] Moses said to Hobab son of Reuel, the Midianite, Moses’ father-in-law,[al] “We are journeying to the place about which the Lord said, ‘I will give it to you.’ Come with us and we will treat you well,[am] for the Lord has promised good things[an] for Israel.” 30 But Hobab[ao] said to him, “I will not go, but I will go instead to my own land and to my kindred.” 31 Moses[ap] said, “Do not leave us,[aq] because you know places for us to camp in the wilderness, and you could be our guide.[ar] 32 And if you come with us, it is certain[as] that whatever good things the Lord will favor us with, we will share with you as well.”
33 So they traveled from the mountain of the Lord three days’ journey;[at] and the ark of the covenant of the Lord was traveling before them during the three days’ journey, to find a resting place for them. 34 [au] And the cloud of the Lord was over them by day, when they traveled[av] from the camp. 35 And when the ark traveled, Moses would say, “Rise up, O Lord! May your enemies be scattered, and may those who hate you flee before you!” 36 And when it came to rest he would say, “Return, O Lord, to the many thousands of Israel!”[aw]
Psalm 46[a]
For the music director, by the Korahites; according to the alamoth style;[b] a song.
46 God is our strong refuge;[c]
he is truly our helper in times of trouble.[d]
2 For this reason we do not fear[e] when the earth shakes,[f]
and the mountains tumble into the depths of the sea,[g]
3 when its waves[h] crash[i] and foam,
and the mountains shake[j] before the surging sea.[k] (Selah)
4 The river’s channels bring joy to the city of God,[l]
the special, holy dwelling place of[m] the Most High.[n]
5 God lives within it,[o] it cannot be moved.[p]
God rescues it[q] at the break of dawn.[r]
6 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms are overthrown.[s]
God[t] gives a shout,[u] the earth dissolves.[v]
7 The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is on our side.[w]
The God of Jacob[x] is our stronghold.[y] (Selah)
8 Come, Witness the exploits[z] of the Lord,
who brings devastation to the earth.[aa]
9 He brings an end to wars throughout the earth.[ab]
He shatters[ac] the bow and breaks[ad] the spear;
he burns[ae] the shields with fire.[af]
10 He says,[ag] “Stop your striving and recognize[ah] that I am God.
I will be exalted[ai] over[aj] the nations! I will be exalted over[ak] the earth!”
11 The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is on our side![al]
The God of Jacob[am] is our stronghold![an] (Selah)
Psalm 47[ao]
For the music director, by the Korahites; a psalm.
47 All you nations, clap your hands.
Shout out to God in celebration.[ap]
2 For the Lord Most High[aq] is awe-inspiring;[ar]
he is the great king who rules the whole earth![as]
3 He subdued nations beneath us[at]
and countries[au] under our feet.
4 He picked out for us a special land[av]
to be a source of pride for[aw] Jacob,[ax] whom he loves.[ay] (Selah)
5 God has ascended his throne[az] amid loud shouts;[ba]
the Lord has ascended amid the blaring of ram’s horns.[bb]
6 Sing to God! Sing!
Sing to our king! Sing!
7 For God is king of the whole earth.
Sing a well-written song.[bc]
8 God reigns[bd] over the nations.
God sits on his holy throne.
9 The nobles of the nations assemble,
along with the people of the God of Abraham,[be]
for God has authority over the rulers[bf] of the earth.
He is highly exalted.[bg]
The Beloved’s Wish Song
The Beloved to Her Lover:
8 Oh, how I wish you were[a] my little brother,[b]
nursing at my mother’s breasts;
if I saw[c] you outside, I could kiss you—
surely[d] no one would despise me![e]
2 I would lead you and bring you to my mother’s house,
the one who taught me.[f]
I would give you[g] spiced wine[h] to drink,[i]
the nectar of my pomegranates.[j]
Double Refrain: Embracing and Adjuration
The Beloved about Her Lover:
3 His left hand is under my head,
and his right hand embraces me.[k]
The Beloved to the Maidens:
The Awakening of Love
The Maidens about His Beloved:
5 Who is this coming up from the wilderness,
leaning on her beloved?
The Beloved to Her Lover:
Under the apple tree I aroused you;[n]
there your mother conceived you,
there she who bore you was in labor of childbirth.[o]
The Nature of True Love
The Beloved to Her Lover:
6 Set me like a cylinder seal[p] over your heart,[q]
like a signet[r] on your arm.[s]
For love is as strong as death,[t]
passion[u] is as unrelenting[v] as Sheol.
Its flames burst forth,[w]
it is a blazing flame.[x]
7 Surging waters cannot quench love;
floodwaters[y] cannot overflow it.
If someone were to offer all his possessions[z] to buy love,[aa]
the offer[ab] would be utterly despised.[ac]
The Brother’s Plan and the Sister’s Reward
The Beloved’s Brothers:
8 We have a little sister,
and as yet she has no breasts.
What shall we do for our sister
on the day when she is spoken for?[ad]
9 If she is a wall,[ae]
we will build on her a battlement[af] of silver;
but if she is a door,
we will barricade[ag] her with boards[ah] of cedar.[ai]
The Beloved:
10 I was a wall,
and my breasts were like fortress towers.[aj]
Then I found favor[ak] in his eyes.[al]
Solomon’s Vineyard and the Beloved’s Vineyard
The Beloved to Her Lover:
11 Solomon had a vineyard at Baal Hamon;
he leased out[am] the vineyard to those who maintained it.
Each was to bring 1,000 shekels of silver for its fruit.
12 My vineyard,[an] which belongs to me,[ao] is at my disposal alone.[ap]
The thousand shekels belong to you, O Solomon,
and 200 shekels belong to those who maintain it for its fruit.
Epilogue: The Lover’s Request and His Beloved’s Invitation
The Lover to His Beloved:
13 O you who stay in the gardens,
my companions are listening attentively[aq] for your voice;
let me be the one to[ar] hear it![as]
The Beloved to Her Lover:
14 Make haste, my beloved!
Be like a gazelle or a young stag
on the mountains of spices.
The High Priest of a Better Covenant
8 Now the main point of what we are saying is this:[a] We have such a high priest, one who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven,[b] 2 a minister in the sanctuary and the true tabernacle that the Lord, not man, set up. 3 For every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices. So this one too had to have something to offer. 4 Now if he were on earth, he would not be a priest, since there are already priests who offer[c] the gifts prescribed by the law. 5 The place where they serve is[d] a sketch[e] and shadow of the heavenly sanctuary, just as Moses was warned by God as he was about to complete the tabernacle. For he says, “See that you make everything according to the design[f] shown to you on the mountain.”[g] 6 But[h] now Jesus[i] has obtained a superior ministry, since[j] the covenant that he mediates is also better and is enacted[k] on better promises.[l]
7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, no one would have looked for a second one.[m] 8 But[n] showing its fault,[o] God[p] says to them,[q]
“Look, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will complete a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah.
9 “It will not be like the covenant[r] that I made with their fathers, on the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because they did not continue in my covenant and I had no regard for them, says the Lord.
10 “For this is the covenant that I will establish with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord. I will put[s] my laws in their minds[t] and I will inscribe them on their hearts. And I will be their God and they will be my people.[u]
11 “And there will be no need at all[v] for each one to teach his countryman or each one to teach his brother saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ since they will all know me, from the least to the greatest.[w]
12 “For I will be merciful toward their evil deeds, and their sins I will remember no longer.”[x]
13 When he speaks of a new covenant,[y] he makes the first obsolete. Now what is growing obsolete and aging is about to disappear.[z]
