M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan
Chapter 7
For Guilt Offerings. 1 “ ‘This is the law for guilt offerings. It is most holy. 2 The guilt offering will be slain where the burnt offerings are slain. He is to sprinkle its blood around the altar. 3 He shall offer all of its fat: its fat tail, the fat that covers its entrails, 4 the two kidneys with their fat, the fat around the loins, and the lobe of the liver that he will detach along with the kidneys. 5 The priest shall burn all of this on the altar as a burnt offering to the Lord. It is a guilt offering. 6 All of the males of the priestly family may eat it. They shall eat it in a holy place. It is most holy. 7 The guilt offering is like the sin offering. The same law applies for both. It belongs to the priest who makes atonement with it. 8 The priest shall also have the skin of any burnt offering he makes for anyone. 9 Every cereal offering baked in an oven, or prepared on a pan or a grill, shall belong to the priest who has offered it. 10 Every cereal offering that is mixed with oil or is dry shall belong to all of the sons of Aaron, to all alike.
11 For Peace Offerings.[a]“ ‘This is the law for peace offerings that he shall offer unto the Lord. 12 If he is offering it as a sacrifice of thanksgiving, he shall offer unleavened cakes mixed with oil, and unleavened wafers with oil sprinkled on them, and fried cakes of fine flour mixed with oil together with his thanksgiving offering. 13 Besides these he shall also offer leavened bread with the sacrifice of thanksgiving of his peace offerings. 14 From them he shall offer one cake as a wave offering to the Lord. It will belong to the priest who sprinkled the blood of the peace offering. 15 The meat from the thanksgiving sacrifice must be eaten on the same day that it was offered. Nothing is be left over until the morning. 16 But if the offering is a vow offering or a freewill offering, it is be eaten on the day that it was offered, and the leftovers must be eaten the next day. 17 Whatever is still left over until the third day must be burned in the fire. 18 If someone eats the meat of a peace offering on the third day, the offering shall not be pleasing. It shall be of no benefit to the person who offered it. It shall be an abomination, and whoever eats of it shall bear the guilt of his iniquity. 19 Any meat that has come into contact with something unclean is not to be eaten. It is to be burned in the fire. All who are clean may eat the meat of a peace offering, 20 but the person who is unclean and who eats the meat of the peace offering to the Lord is to be cut off[b] from his people. 21 If anyone touches anything unclean, whether it be the uncleanness of a person or an unclean animal or any abominable, unclean thing and that person then eats the meat of the sacrifice of the peace offering, he shall be cut off from his people.’ ”
22 Things Forbidden. The Lord spoke again to Moses saying, 23 “Speak to the children of Israel and tell them: do not eat the fat of an ox or a sheep or a goat. 24 The fat of an animal that dies a natural death or an animal that has been torn apart by a wild animal can be used for any function, only it is not to be eaten. 25 Whoever eats the fat of an animal that has been offered to the Lord in fire will be cut off from his people. 26 You are not to eat blood in any of your dwellings, whether it be blood from a bird or from any other animal. 27 Whoever eats any animal’s blood shall be cut off from his people.”
28 Portions for the Priests. And the Lord spoke to Moses saying, 29 “Speak to the children of Israel and tell them, ‘Whoever offers the sacrifice of a peace offering to the Lord shall bring the offering of the sacrifice of the peace offering. 30 [c]He shall bring the offering to be made by fire to the Lord in his own hands. He shall bring the fat together with the breast, the breast that shall be waved before the Lord as a wave offering. 31 The priest shall burn the fat upon the altar, but the breast will be for Aaron and his sons. 32 He will also give the right shoulder of the sacrifice of his peace offering as a wave offering to the priest. 33 The son of Aaron who offers the blood and the fat of the peace offering will receive the right shoulder as his portion. 34 I have taken the breast of the wave offering and the right shoulder that is offered from the sacrifices of the peace offerings of the children of Israel, and I have given them to Aaron the priest and his sons. This is an eternal statute for the children of Israel.
35 “ ‘This is the portion consecrated to Aaron and the portion consecrated to his sons from the offerings made by fire to the Lord. They will receive them on the day that they present them ministering unto the Lord. 36 On the day that he anointed them, the Lord commanded that the children of Israel give this to them. It is a statute from one generation to the next.’ ” 37 These are the statutes concerning the burnt offerings, the grain offerings, the sin offerings, the guilt offerings and the consecration of the sacrifice of the peace offerings. 38 The Lord gave these commands to Moses on Mount Sinai on the day that he commanded the children of Israel to offer their oblations to the Lord when they were in the Desert of Sin.
Psalm 7[a]
Appeal to the Divine Judge
1 A plaintive song of David, which he sang to the Lord concerning Cush,[b] a Benjaminite.
2 O Lord, my God, I take refuge in you;
keep me safe from all my pursuers and deliver me,
3 lest like a lion they tear me to pieces
and carry me off, with no one to rescue me.
4 O Lord, my God, if I have done this,
if my hands are stained with guilt,
5 if I have repaid a friend with treachery—
I who spared the lives of those who without cause were my enemies—[c]
6 then let my foe pursue and overtake me;
let him trample my life into the ground
and leave my honor in the dust. Selah
7 Rise up, O Lord, in your indignation;
rise against the fury of my enemies.
Rouse yourself for me,
and fulfill the judgment you have decreed.
8 Let the peoples assemble in your presence
as you sit above them enthroned on high.
9 The Lord is the judge of the nations.
Therefore, pass judgment on me, O Lord, according to my righteousness,
according to my innocence, O Most High.
10 Put an end to the malice of the wicked
but continue to sustain the righteous,
O God of justice,
you who search minds and hearts.[d]
11 God is a shield to me;
he saves those who are upright of heart.
12 God is a just judge,
a God who expresses his indignation every day.
13 When a sinner refuses to repent,
God sharpens his sword,
and he bends and aims his bow.
14 He has prepared deadly weapons for him
and made his arrows into fiery shafts.
15 [e]Behold, he who conceives iniquity
and is pregnant with mischief
will give birth to lies.
16 He digs a pit and makes it deep,
but he will fall into the trap he has made.
17 His wickedness will recoil upon his own head,
and his violence will fall back on his own crown.
18 I will offer thanks to the Lord because of his righteousness,
and I will sing hymns of praise[f] to the name of the Lord Most High.
Psalm 8[g]
The Majesty of God and the Dignity of Human Beings
1 For the director.[h] “Upon the gittith.” A psalm of David.
2 O Lord, our Lord,
how glorious is your name[i] in all the earth!
You have exalted your majesty above the heavens.
3 Out of the mouths of newborn babes and infants[j]
you have brought forth praise
as a bulwark against your foes,
to silence the enemy and the avenger.
4 When I look up at your heavens
that have been formed by your fingers,
the moon and the stars
that you set in place,
5 what is man that you are mindful of him,
the son of man[k] that you care for him?
6 You have made him a little less than the angels[l]
and crowned him with glory and honor.
7 You have given him dominion over the works of your hands
and placed everything under his feet:
8 all sheep and oxen
as well as the beasts of the field,
9 the birds of the air, the fish of the sea,
and whatever swims in the paths of the sea.
10 O Lord, our Lord,
how glorious is your name in all the earth!
Chapter 22
Reflections on the Human Condition[a]
1 An honorable name[b] is more to be desired than great riches,
and high esteem is preferable to silver and gold.
2 The rich and the poor have this in common:
all of them were made by the Lord.[c]
3 A prudent man perceives danger and seeks shelter,
while the simple[d] continue forward and pay for it.
4 The reward of humility and fear of the Lord[e]
is wealth, honor, and life.
5 Thorns and snares cover the path of the perverse;
whoever values his life will steer clear of them.
6 Train a child in the way he should go,
and he will not deviate from it, even in old age.
7 The wealthy man lords it over the poor,[f]
and the borrower becomes the slave of the lender.
8 Whoever sows injustice will reap calamity,
and the rod of his wrath will disappear.
9 One who is kindly will be blessed,[g]
for he shares his food with the poor.
10 Banish the scoffer[h] and strife will cease;
discord and abuse will come to an end.
11 The Lord loves the pure of heart;
the man of gracious speech will have the king as a friend.
12 The eyes of the Lord[i] preserve knowledge,
but he ruins the plans of the unfaithful.
13 The idler cries out, “There is a lion outside;
I will be killed if I go out on the street.”[j]
14 The mouth of an adulteress[k] is a deep pit;
the man with whom the Lord is angry will fall into it.
15 Folly is rooted deep in the heart of a child,
but the rod of correction[l] will remove it far from him.
16 A man becomes rich by crushing the poor,
but presents to the rich will only impoverish him.[m]
The Sayings of the Wise[n]
Lend Your Ear[o]
17 These are the sayings of the wise:
Incline your ear and listen to my words,
and apply your mind to the knowledge I impart.
18 They will afford pleasure if you keep them in your heart
and have all of them ready on your lips.
19 In order that your trust may be in the Lord,
I will make them known to you today.
20 Have I not written for you thirty sayings[p]
of admonition and knowledge
21 to show you what is right and true
so that you can offer sound answers to the one who sent you?
Practical Counsels[q]
22 Do not rob the poor because they are helpless
or oppress the needy at the gate.
23 For the Lord will take up their cause[r]
and rob of life those who despoiled them.
24 Never make friends with a man prone to anger,
and do not associate with anyone who is wrathful.
25 Otherwise you may learn his ways[s]
and find yourself entangled in a snare.
26 Do not be one of those who give pledges
and become surety for another’s debts.
27 For if you have no means of paying,
your bed will be taken from under you.
28 Never remove the ancient boundary stone
that your ancestors set up.
29 If you see a man who is skilled in his work,[t]
remember that he will serve kings;
he will not stand before common people.
Salutation
Chapter 1
Address and Greeting. 1 Paul, Silvanus,[a] and Timothy to the Church of Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: grace to you and peace.
Evangelization Is the Work of the Spirit[b]
A Model for All Believers.[c] 2 We always give thanks to God for all of you and mention you in our prayers. 3 We constantly remember before our God and Father your work of faith and your labor of love and your perseverance in hope[d] in our Lord Jesus Christ.
4 Brethren, beloved by God, we know that he has chosen you, 5 because our gospel[e] came to you not merely in words alone but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with profound conviction. And you are fully aware what sort of people we proved to be when we were among you for your sake.
6 And you in turn became imitators[f] of us and of the Lord, for despite great suffering you received the word with joy in the Holy Spirit, 7 so that you became a model for all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia.[g]
8 Not only has the word of the Lord rung forth from you in Macedonia and Achaia, but also your faith in God has become known everywhere. Therefore, we do not have the need to speak about it. 9 For the people themselves report what kind of reception we had from you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God 10 and await his Son from heaven whom he raised from the dead—Jesus, who will deliver us from the wrath that is to come.
